Lose it.com vs MFP

So I stumbled upon the loseit.com app while browsing the app store. It's also free like MFP and has similarities so I was wondering if anyone else had tried this one! It got good ratings in the app store.

LoseIt.com thinks I can lose 1/2 a pound on 1798 calories. My MFP maintenance is less than that. Seems like a big difference!0

I will only leave MFP if all of my friends leave and all of the support forums go and everyone that has lost more than 1 lb on here will go.0

They may take into account planned exercise, whereas MFP assumes no exercise, which is why your exercise cals get added back here.0 -
I see this as a win win. You can log calories on one and if you are about to go over BAM 2000 extra calories on the other without going over!0

which calculation for basal metabolic rate does it use? does it take into account activity levels during the day? MFP uses Miffen St Joer which i used long before I used MFP calculating it manually and the MFP values seem to be in line with that and worked for me the last time.0

The Lose It food database is not as comprehensive as MFP's. I found myself having to manually add a lot of things I ate, and that gets tedious after a while.0

It also looks like the database of foods is vastly larger over here. Another reason to stick with MFP.0 -

Is this because they base your calories on TDEE including planned exercise? MFP ignores your planned exercise, which is why it adds them back in for you to eat. either way it should get you to roughly the same place, as long as you burn near what your goal burn is.0 -

I didn't tell it I was planning to exercise. I looked around the site for a minute and couldn't find anything saying exercise was included. Of course, I literally looked for one minute so I could have missed it.
As much as I would like to think that MFP is too low, I know that I have lost 8 pounds in 8 weeks by following the calorie goal it gave me, so it must be correct for me.0 -

Yes, I logged into loseit.com and it said I should have 2069 calories a day versus 1720 on MFP. There are also not the same amount of food choices. I tried to reenter my food for today, and only a fraction of the food was in there. On the plus, I like their reports A WHOLE LOT BETTER, but since my friends are on here, and they don't have the same extensive food database, I will stay with MFP. I do hope their reporting gets better though!0

I agree lose it doesn't have the extensive database as MFP. The reason the base calories are higher with lose it is because they take your RMR and multiply it by 1.45 to account for daily activities such as showering, driving to/from work, talking, etc. I guess they figure most people either won't bother with the calories burned for these activities, or wouldn't think to include them.0

I am completely new to MyFitnessPal, but I've been using Loseit! for the last year. This is my first day on MFP, so I'm just getting know my way around.
So far, I like Loseit's web interface better, but MFP's app interface better.
I've noticed that there is a stark difference between the calories Loseit! suggests and what MFP suggests. MFP is ridiculously low. This really threw me off, because following Loseit's has been spot-on for me.
The food database never bothered me for whatever reason. I like having to hunt down what I am eating and find out what's inside. In comparison to Losei!, I find MFP's food database a little overwhelming.
I'll have to come back with more thoughts next week.0 -

MFP ignores planned excercise? How come it asks me un my fitnes goals how many times i plan to work out?
I am new to MFP as well. I have tried lots of calorie counting sites. Had lots of sucess with my daily plate before they changed it all up, then tried lose it, now MFP. It does seem like you can eat lots more with lose it, but I'm not sure why. I do not belive it is because they are incorporating exercise already, becuase when you input your activity it adds it back to what you eat as well.0 -
Lose it tells you when you're going to lose the weight by, provided you follow the projected calorie intake and exercise appropriately.0

I've been using loseit for a year now. I was/am very attached to it.
I just joined MFP this week and I love it here...trying very hard to abandon Losit, but the food counter on this site is different, and it tells me that I'm going to weight more than what I weigh now in 5 weeks from now....I don't get it.
So I might continue using losit for my food tracking, but use MFP for tips, tricks, motivation.0 -

I used LoseIt before I found MFP. I used both for a while but I have since left LoseIt. I like MFP so much better the food data base is so much better here and I like the set up better.0

Yeah...I've been checking it out too...just stumbled across it tonight and then googled it and found this message board. It looks pretty good to the eye...from first glance and looking at the screen shap shots...it seems to look more user friendly and something that is right there on your phone. The MFP app is basically a link to the actual webpage. However, the biggest thing I saw with loseit! is, did you notice how much it weighs? It will take up 14M of space on your phone...my phone doesn't even have that much space to try it out...which is probably a good thing because I would also feel like I'm cheating on MFP...lol0

The comment about the ap is phone dependent then. The iphone ap is a true ap, it doesn't just take you to a web page.0 -
lose it has me set at 1545 calories per day and MFP has me set up for 1200 calories per day. I am still using both trying to figure out which one I like best but I am really shocked at the difference in calorie per day from each... so far I did lose it for a week and did not lose 1 lb but I didn't gain either....0

I just did a test run with Lose It. They do add in exercise, and their numbers are overstated just the same as MFP. To lose .5 pounds a week, there is only a 20 calorie difference (MFP is higher).
Also, I notice they have a free version, but other plans are paid.
I like MFP because they treat me real nice. :bigsmile:0
