Accurate calorie burn

Hi all. My first post here so bear with me if this has been asked and posted somewhere else. Does anyone know how accurate the calorie burn counter on a treadmill is? How about a pedometer or Ipod with the Nike fitness thing that is like a pedometer? I just have my doubts that the treadmill readout is very accurate. I feel like I'm getting a great workout and my intensity level is high but it will say I haven't burned many cals when I feel like I have. My ipod gives me a way higher calorie total than the treadmill and my regular pedometer is somewhere in between the 2. What do I use to get a more accurate idea of how many calories I'm burning? Thanks

The most accurate way is with a Heart Rate Monitor.
Polar are good as they usually "talk" to the gym equipment.0 -
Yes, I just got a Polar FT4 HRM watch and it is great! You will be surprised though that the gym machines and pedometers are usually quite a bit higher than what you are actually burning, once you use a HRM. Makes you work harder too, I think.0

I have an FT7 and I actually burn quite a bit more than the machines were telling me! Woot!0
