Ive been loosing alot of weight, more than my profile say because I lost alot before I joing this site, but I still have this really annoying belly fat. I'm looking for some suggestions on what I can do to make my belly shrink!?
Currently I do the treadmill the most, i try to switch up my speeds and inclines but it is hard for me because my feet give me alot of trouble (i have foot problems so they get sore and throb after to fast, or to much incline so i have to take it easy) and also use the bike and ellipitcal. I was doing crunches but I wasn't see any results so I stopped doing those, perhaps I should try to start them again? any suggestions would help? my work outs are usualy about 30 mins long. about 4-5 days a week.

  • Hey zombie,

Congratulations on all the weight you've lost! It sounds like you're on the right track. As far as losing specifically off your belly, unfortunately, you cannot burn of a specific spot, so targeted crunches will tone, but not flatten your belly. Your workout plan sounds sensible and it's great that you periodically change it up. Have you tried modifying your diet? Not in the sense of calorie intake, which are obviously already doing, but in the TYPE of food you are eating. Eliminating refined carbs, extra sodium, and sugars can make a big difference. You may find in particular that cutting down on salt will significantly reduce abdominal bloat, which will help to flatten the belly. Stay away from pre-prepared foods, which are high in sodium and preservatives. Over half of your diet should be fruits and vegetables, with the focus being on vegetables. Good luck! Let us know what's working for you.

  • It's impossible to spot reduce a certain place on your body you want to take fat off of. It's genetics that decides where the fat will come off first. If your belly is your biggest problem area, like me (that's where your body decides pretty much all extra fat will go) then it will take the longest to change. If spot reducing was possible that would be amazing! Doing crunches will help to develop the muscle underneath all the belly fat, but it won't necessarily remove the fat from that area specifically. The only way to change belly fat is to just keep losing more weight and it will take care of itself. But keep doing regular ab routines and you'll have some killer abs when the fat does come off to reveal them later! :D
Also if your feet give you trouble I would stick to the elliptical more since it is a very low-impact machine. I have a bad left knee and especially in cold weather so that's what I use the most. I think I get a better workout from it anyways since you can amp up incline and resistance as well.
