I haven't but I will check it out. Thanks.0 -
Not yet...however there are a few people on MFP who are. I know UltraRunnerGale is one. She's a pretty kick butt lady too...awesome friend to have.0

The 50 miler is where it is at. I can't wait till I can pull this distance off0

I don't think my joints could stand it, so I stick to triathlons. Every 5 years I want to do an ironman. I've done two. I think my body will last longer this way! I have always wanted to do a 100 mile race though. It's on the bucket list! Good luck!0

I have my first marathon in April 2012...but I would LOVE to get up to an ultra!0

Running fourth marathon this weekend and hoping to do an ultra next year (probably 50k but we'll see).0

I'm running my first marathon in 10 days and will be doing a 50 mile next September. Ludgerclay is my friend and an ultra runner. Look him up.0

Here! Well, I ran a 50k in 2009, haven't been over that distance since but have two 50 milers lined up this year. How's everyone's training going?0

I'm an aspiring ultra
I actually decided yesterday that I'm going to run an ultra after my next two marathons this year. Feel free to friend me0 -
There is an Ultra Running Group in the groups section
I have a 10 miles trail race tomorrow that accomanies a 50K.
A 50K has entered my mind, but we'll see how 10 miles goes first. I've done several trail 5 & 10K's before.0 -

Wow! I admire you for this!!
What sort of training are you doing for that?0 -

Bloody hell, if I were to do a 50 mile race, I doubt I would ever run again, I would be walking as though I had been on a horse all my life, bandy legs, the lot LOL!
How do you keep going at that distance?0 -

I was in Auburn volunteering at Western States and saw her come in. Awesome! Then I met her this past December at the "Unbreakable" screening the night before North Face. Ellie is totally nice and down to earth.
There are a few of us ultra runners out here. I've done several 50ks and a 50 miler. The next distance I'm tackling is a 100k which is in May. I've run probably 90% of the course at this point during various training runs and I'm more than a little scared. There is a lot of elevation ascent and descent. On the plus side, since this race is practically in my back yard, I have a very, very clear idea of what I'm in for. lol0 -
So what do you do for your long training runs?
Long training runs I try to be as specific to the course as my goal race as possible. My goal race is a trail race with a lot of hills so long runs are on trails with a lot of hills. Sometimes I'll sign up for trail races and use them as supported training runs. I would be more inclined to do this more for 50k and above distances. Anything below that I can roll my own and plot out a course that loops back to the car so I can resupply food and water. I still sign up for some short races too that friends are doing or might be in a different park just for a change of scenery and mixing it up a bit.0
