Improving bloodwork....

My hubby (165 lbs, 6 ft, thin and unhealthy) just got his bloodwork results back from a health screening and his cholesterol/lipids all came back in the high alert level. SO, I think he is finally serious about changing his diet to being more healthy AND adding exercise. I am currently on a low carb diet per the endo and my bloodwork is AWESOME (and I don't need anyone to preach anti-low carb sentiments here), but I understand that there is some question about whether it's the low carb OR the weight loss or a combo that brings improvement. SO, since he doesn't need to lose weight, I'm not sure if he should be eating as I do.
Will exercise (he's planning to start p90x for real this time;) improve the bloodwork results? Any diet recommendations for improving bloodwork but without weight loss? I suggested he take his bloodwork results to his doctor (haha, he doesn't HAVE a doctor and hasn't been since we started dating 7 years ago) and he's looking into finding one, but just wondered the best way for him to get started.
Thanks!!!!

Exercise will help. A healthy diet high in whole grains (read: fiber), healthy fats (especially those Omega-3's), and low saturated fats will help. Niacin has been shown to help cholesterol levels dramatically, according to recent research. An overall healthier lifestyle it the best thing you can do!0

Stop eating alot of red meats if he does. I am REALLY over weight but ALL my numbers show like I'm a skinny person. I limit my read meat in take to 1-2 times a week. My cholesterol is actually "too low" according to the numbers. And don't eat eggs. It's not worth it, use egg beaters instead if you have to eat eggs. & then all the stuff about good fats mentioned earlier is important too.0
