why do i do this?
is it being greedy or something else is involve?

hahahahaha... there was free food at school yesterday.. i was totally there!
although, i usually don't eat sandwiches, i ate one yesterday for dinner.0 -
I also struggle with this. Somehow since someone else bought it the calories are free too. Dumb.0

Free food at school is a big part of why I need to lose weight. Lunch lectures with ice cream, pizza, cookies, chips, pop... I just say no these days. The pizza may be free in monetary value, but not free to my stomach!0

i think it's probably a will power thing, i have the same problem! I always feel like i'm being rude if I say no, even if it's the samples at Costco! the trick i've had to make myself use EVERY time is to immediately say "no" without thinking about it, after a while it becomes habit and you don't have to worry about it... it takes some time to develop but it can be done, i promise!0

Depends on how much I want to eat it and my proximity to a trash can. If I don't want to eat it, I'll take some and throw it away when nobody's looking. Or if I get a helping larger than I like, I find a way to save part of it for later. If the person knows that I am watching what I eat, then I simply say, "No thank you, it doesn't fit in my plan for today." If it's just crap sitting on a table at work, just chew gum and don't go near the stuff.0

I used to struggle with this at work, but I've been able to deal with it pretty well thanks to MFP. All that free food adds up calorie wise0

it aint free if i gotta sweat it off later...and if its useless food that I really dont crave or desire..its gonna come out one end..soooo i rather just throw it away or decline...waste is waste no matter how it got there...so let the person who cares less eat it or the person who craves it more..0

I'm almost the other way around these days... I find it quite easy. I think I just have this feeling now of wanting to stay in control of what I put in my own body, so if I'm offered something that is free and also empty nutritionwise I just think exactly that - though free this isn't going to do me any good at all, so it'll actually pay off to say no, sort of thing.0

This is something I've always struggled with. At my job, there is food constantly being prepared and offered to me. At first, I had a very hard time saying no and ended up gaining 5lbs within my first month. Since then, I've stopped accepting the foods and find that I don't feel as guilty saying "no" as I did eating it!
A few weekends ago, someone brought in gourmet cupcakes. I about died when I had to say no but being honest with yourself and realizing your goals helps you stay on track! Best of luck!0 -
Only if it's something I really like. I usually ask myself "do I really want this?" and "is it worth it?" (how much it will alter my day/how much I will enjoy it). Taking something free isn't worth it if it will ruin your day, your mood, or your health.0

This is probably the hardest part of the battle for me....simply refusing something that is free. I have no problem passing up junk food that I have to explicitly pay for.0

Refuse free food??? What does that mean?!?0

Since I promised to log EVERYTHING in MFP, free is not free if I have to log it. I tend to just say no thank you if it's something I can't have on my plan and to have a little if it is and log it.0

I don't find it hard, unless it's the specific food that I want.0

It depends what it is, for me.0

I grew up poor, and never turned down an offer of free food. Now that I'm not a broke-*kitten*, I only accept free foods I enjoy.0

I am with you...a co-worker purchased cookies this week one for herslef & one for me. Sugar is a gateway drug for me but I took the cookie because she was being kind. I did not want to eat it but what can I say I did...I wish I would have looked at the calories before I ate it
It was good but not worth the calories. 0 -

I struggle with this, too. I think it is related to growing up so poor that there was often a shortage of food (we never starved; we just didn't have a lot or much to choose from). I still have some food hoarding issues, a fact to which anyone who has ever looked in my cupboards can attest. No longer financially insecure, I still sometimes feel like I'm going to panic if I am getting low on food at the house.
I have only recently (in the past few months) learned I don't have to eat whatever food is offered just because it's free. I keep healthy snacks in my desk drawer so that if someone brings in brownies, I can eat something and not feel deprived.
With all of the amazing protein smoothie recipes I have been trying out lately, I often feel like I am drinking dessert a couple of times per day. A couple of nights ago, this allowed me to turn down free cake, and ice cream (two flavors, one of which was my favorite!) because I'd just had an amazing cheesecake smoothie with 34 g protein and only 302 calories. So yes, it's a problem for me, but it's becoming less so, thank goodness!0
