PErsonal trainer. Personal trainer will tailor a program to YOU, the results you are looking for, etc. Just make sure its a good one, there are a lot of bad ones out there.0

Crossfit - i love it!! people say its expensive but well if you enjoy something you find the money to do it!! i understand america is probably different but i work while study so i can do crossfit cus as someone has already said crossfit is a community as well as a personal trainer, which is probably the biggest difference between the two! I love the friends that i have made at my box and well they make me push harder and they make me never miss a training session, in fact i spend most of my day wanting to be there as it is so much fun and i love challenging myself to do things that i never even dreamed was possible..
People say crossfit is expensive but that is only because every session is like having a personal trainer - so every session you go harder for longer!! but well who can afford to have one on one personal training 2 + times a day like i do with crossfit?? That is what you really need to think about?? make every burn count!!0 -
The Crossfit Cultists have come out haven't they :P.
Also keep in mind that Crossfit workouts are posted online and you can incorporate them into your own workout, if you workout alone.0 -
I work out with a personal trainer twice a week and I love it. When I go to the gym and am not meeting with him I do not work out nearly as hard. He pushes me more than I push myself and that is what I need, so it works well for me. I have never done Crossfit but I have heard good things about it.0

X-FIT, my class is usually only 3-4 people so it's almost as if the trainer is there just for me anyway...0

I'm debating whether to join a crossfit gym or join a regular gym and look into getting a personal trainer??
THOUGHTS? Just wants some opinions.
Please & Thank You. :]
Look for a trainer that is knowledgeable in the core lifts (squat, bench, overhead press, deadlift) if they steer you towards machines and cardio equipment. Run away!
Here is my problem with Crossfit. In order to be good at Crossfit you need to learn the Olympic lifts. The problem is many Crossfit "trainers" don't know what they are doing. That is why Crossfit as a whole is changing this.
^^^This! Crossfit is cult-ish and the lifts can be complex and a lot of the trainers are not qualified to teach them.0 -

lol i've worked with personal trainers three times in the past 4 years for about 6-10months stints. In 5 weeks of crossfit i have seen more improvement than anything i have done with a trainer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!0 -
It depends what your goals are. If you want general overall fitness then cross fit is fine but if you're training for a sport or a specific event then crossfit should only be a tool in your fitness toolbox and a personal trainer could be of much greater benefit.
As a mountain bike and cross country ski racer I would never do crossfit because I need specific results. Crossfit is fine for overall activity but random workouts bring random results. Specific workouts bring specific results.
Be wary of crossfit though. Some of the exercises they have you do are very high skill exercises and should not be done without direct supervision of someone WHO REALLY REALLY knows what they're doing. I'm not hating on crossfit; I've just seen too many people injured.0 -
you guys do realise that cross fit have scaled down options to every exercise they do.. the only reason people get injured is cus they overestimate their limits and dont want to scale it.. and so injuries happen but hey that happens in gyms as well and is not just a crossfit thing.. as long as you know and understand your limits crossfit will work for you!! and how come everytime a small group of people start loving something its accused of being called a cult.. we dont randomly give all our money to them.. its a service we get benefits from it!! there are no religious overtunes and well i definitely wouldn't give up my life to crossfit and crossfit definitely isnt strange or sinister..0

As a personal trainer, I would suggest the trainer first, then cross fit. I am a personal trainer AND a group fitness instructor and I cringe in my group classes when the form is bad - you are just setting yourself up for injury. Pick a trainer that will teach you the right form, so down the road, you can execute multiple exercises with perfect form.0

I get Crossfit workouts online for free, and modify to my ability/coaching/spotters around.... and I work with a trainer to help me get the form right.
I don't care how fast the guy next to me is doing wall balls or thrusters, I will go as fast as PROPER FORM ALLOWS!!!0 -
this is what makes me laugh about cross fit

was there a single pullup done in either of these videos? even a correct kipping version?
"oh but the workout was done SO FAST!"
:laugh:1 -
I'm pretty on the fence when it comes to the kip. It feels border line light weight high reps, and even a cheat rep.
The pull up is a top tier back builder, yet due to the hip assistance with a kip, a huge portion of resistance is taken away. It feels cheap.1 -

Excuse you A-Hole, but I have a trainer who does primarily machines(Plated and non plated), dumbells and bodyweight exercises with me. Mainly because I have no desire to ever touch a barbell... so depending OP's goals, she may be the same. Telling her to runaway from that trainer is rude.
To OP:
I have gone through three personal trainers in the past year, and finally found one who is working for me. I don't think that I would ever want to workout without one now.
Personally I'd never do crossfit because as I stated above, I don't want to do barbell work.0 -
Personally I say Crossfit!!!!0

It definately depends on your goals and how motivated you are. CrossFit is a workout like you won't get anywhere else, depending on the CrossFit Box you are looking to become a member of. During every CrossFit workout, you work HARD and you leave there knowing it! If the trainers are doing thier jobs, they will make sure you are doing the reps right, and with the right form to ensure you aren't hurting yourself. You can leave the CrossFit Box everyday sore from the day before's workout and results such as strength, muscle tone, self esteem and cardio stamina happen quickly.
CrossFit does require you to be competitive; not neccessarily with others, but you have to be willing to be competitive with yourself and push yourself when you think you really can't go any further. You may not have the best time when you finish your WOD, but next time you do that same WOD, I assure you, your time will be better! If someone else finishes the WOD before you, they are going to be right behind you supporting you till the end!
CrossFit is expensive, but your RESULTS are impressive!1 -
our local crossfit place will let you come and try a session for free. would you buy a car without test driving it first. Meet up with a personal trainer and have a chat a long one before paying for the service. Gyms also if you ask will give you a 1 day -1 week pass for free to try them out.0

Choose Crossfi, hands down! It's a wonderful, welcoming community that will kick your butt! You'll probably still have to do cardio outside of the workouts, but you'll be amazed how much you improve in a short time (if you stick with it). I started crossfit a few months ago. Last month we did a paleo challenge. I lost 2.5 inches off my waist and 1 inch off my hips. Find a gym that has a free "open WOD" for first timers. You won't regret it!0
