Doctors Psychologists and Fitness Experts Oh My

It amazes me daily on these threads how many doctors, fitness experts, psychologists are created by the super human ability to log food and to read such fascinating threads like ...eating calories or the 1200 cal debate ... So many self righteous saviors who think it is now their purpose too preach the gospel of MFP and to spread the word to all those less fortunate that are not graced by their knowledge. Give me a break people....
Should I tell someone they are eating badly ? No *kitten* hat
Should I tell someone they are to skinny and if they don't eat 1200 calories they will for sure die ? No mental midget ..don't do it
It's not hard people ...
stay the frack out and mind yourself ...geezus

Unless you have the proper credentials you shouldn't, unless you have clinical calculators at your disposal with clinical guidelines on sports nutrition then NO you shouldn't.
Unless you have some sort of methodology proven by research, then no you shouldn't preach...
If you have it all then go ahead preach your heart out! I have all of the above, but I don't preach unless I really care about investing my time in that person.0 -
While I agree that no one without a medical degree should be "preaching," I don't completely agree with your post. For example, it's commonly known that for the vast majority of people, eating under 1200 net calories a day is simply not healthy and your body will not get all the fuel and nutrients it needs. So if someone posts on here and says "I'm only getting about 500 net calories a day, is that unhealthy?" I'm going to reply and say yes, that is unhealthy and suggest that they try to up their intake. Is their something wrong with that? People ask for advice for a reason.0

I think this says it all :
Posts by members, moderators and admins should not be considered medical advice and no guarantee is made against accuracy.
...no guarantees of accuracy. I can think of a lot of dumb *kitten* I see everyday.0 -
The majority of what I am referring to is the "My friend eats really bad should I tell them" and those types of threads . Giving advice is one thing here but it seems like there are always experts. For example the reply to this about the 1200 calorie debate listing it as if its a fact ...0

MFP is a free to use fitness, weight loss and social interaction site.
It is up to each one of us to make of it what we will and that means either listening to someones personal experience and advice or ignoring it.
No one is forcing anyone to do anything and do have to kind of chuckle at the irony of a rather terse thread being started telling others not to tell people what to do. :laugh:0 -
No, that'd be the height of rudeness!
Your post reminds me of that cheeky article karl Lagerfeld publicly announcing to all and sundry that Edele is too fat! geez the nerve of him. His comments are so inappropriate because she's not claiming to be a model, she's not championing the glories of being overweight (like say Dawn French used to), and to use his fame to publicly humiliate another 'sleb' over her weight is just appalling imo.
I was also going to say "show me a fat person who doesn't realise they are fat" but I was reading recently that although 2 out of three Irish adults have a BMI of 26+, only 40% of adults identify as being overweight. So clearly there are a lot of people who are overweight and don't realise it............ but, it's not down to some randomer to tell you 'the truth'.0 -

I agree everyone has their own mind to make up their own decisions and if they ask for advice . . hey we are all responsible adults I think they will do just fine. Besides MFP has a disclaimer on advice and talking to you physician 1st.0 -
I think that the majority of people ask other people for advice on important issue all the time in 'real life'. When people ask there friends for help I find it hard pushed to think that everyone is assuming their friend is a qualified expert on the subject matter. So why should the internet be any different?
This is a public forum, with responses coming from the willing to help public. Unless people are flat out stating that they are qualified and what they are saying is tested fact I don't see the problem in giving advice.
Also, I'm a student psychologist and very very soon to be proper psychologist, do this mean I can preach? My mum will hattteee that if it means I can! :laugh:0 -
At the bottom of every page it reads:

Maybe they should move it to the top of the page0 -

This makes me laugh because Karl Lagerfield lost weight and kept it off on a diet of cigarrettes and Diet Coke. That qualifies his opinion. What a douche.0
