So....after i've logged my food so far for today - breakfast, lunch, snacks and drinks - i still have 744 calories left over for dinner!!
That doesn't even take into account the extra 200-250 i plan on burning later.....
So basically, what can i eat for around 800-900 calories that isn't loaded with fat and sugar.....also i don't like to eat a massive meal in the evening.

Any ideas?
Thanks

Charlotte xx

Cashews are high fat, but they are the good kind of fat, good protien and super high in calories. Nom nom nom!

Well, high calorie and healthy certainly includes fats. Try things like olive oil and walnut oil for low saturated fat content. Your body needs fats to survive too.

Maybe grill some fish (slamon or tuna - also good fats) and have a salad with a homemade vinagrette?

As long as you get the unsalted kind.

Mix together some tuna, avocado and crushed almonds and maybe some hot sauce for an almost 0 carb snack.

Yes! When I have a ton of calories to spare, I usually go for half an avocado, sliced on a piece of toast. Super yummy and has lots of good fats and nutrients in it! And takes up some of my extra calories so I don't end up eating junk to fill in the gap.

I second the avocado and nuts. Or make a salad dressing with olive oil, which also has good fats.
  • String cheese and a handful of nuts
    Peanut butter on an apple
    Greek yogurt
  • Thanks guys.
Think i will have to stop on my way home from work to pick up some nuts!!

I know this problem well and have been wrestling with it since I started doing heavier exercise loads. (For example, my 12 mile bike ride yesterday at 14+ mph was more than 600 calories.) Here is my favorite thing to do and it is really flexible...that is, you can customize the calorie amount based on your daily needs.

    (1) Start with some low fat (not non-fat) yogurt. I personally like Tillamook low-fat French vanilla.
    (2) Mix in some raw (unsalted) nuts. I've used cashews, almonds, or walnuts based on what I have in the house.
    (3) Mix in some fresh fruit. I typically use a type of berry though have also used cherries, apples, and apricots as well.

If you measure everything carefully you end up with a high calorie healthy snack. If you need more calories, add more nuts and/or yogurt. If you need slightly fewer, use more fruit. Here are three entries from my diary from the last two weeks:

    30 g almonds + 4 oz yogurt + 100 g apricots = 350 cal. ; 44 g carb ; 15 g fat ; 12 g protein ; 70 mg sodium
    30 g cashews + 30 g almonds + 6 oz yogurt + 120 g apricots = 596 cal; 70 g carb; 29 g fat; 20 g protein; 109 mg sodium
    30 g walnuts + 4 oz yogurt + 1 oz raspberries + 1 oz boysenberries = 364 cal ; 38 g carb; 21 g fat; 10 g protein; 70 mg sodium

Pick your nuts based on your fat/protein needs (walnuts are slightly higher in fat; almonds in protein), pick your yogurt to your taste, and your fruit based on what you have. Stick with a low sodium yogurt and this is a low sodium snack too! Cheers!

I usually have almonds, greek yogurt or a banana. Sometimes I will drink a cup of 1% milk which is a little over a 100 calories and 8g protein.

Some great suggestions here. I find that on certain days I burn a lot more calories through exercise and so to meet my net calories I need to increase my calorie intake slightly but have mostly been having nuts (which get very boring after a while).

At least now I have a few more ideas that I can try out. Am intrigued about peanut butter on an apple - am going to try that!
