IBS and dieting

Was wondering if anyone else has Irritable Bowel Syndrome and if they have noticed any improvement since changing their diet?

I have Crohns, and for me, I know that I can't have anything with fat or any amount of carbs. I am flaring right now, so getting the proper nutrition for my workouts/just for living is proving to be quite the challenge. Last year though I switched up my diet to less fat and low carb and felt amazing! So hopefully once this flare is gone I'll feel amazing again! Good luck with your journey!

I'm a firm believer that diet can control a lot of the symptoms that come with IBS. Maybe not all of them, but a lot. I'm flaring now because of a highly stressful event in my life in December, but I'm confident that when the flare is gone I'll be able to control my symptoms with diet and exrercise. Of course, I'll still be taking pills for the rest of my life, but I know I'll be able to lower the dosage once this is under control, all thanks to diet. :)

If you have IBS-c you may want to check out some betaine HCL, you can get it at any health food store or green grocer.

Try googling "low HCL" and see if you have any of the symptoms. I had 10 out of 13.

Taking the HCL (the acid in our stomach that breaks down food) before my meals with meat changed my life in ways I can not even describe. But it does take a couple of weeks, so it is not an over night fix.

Good luck, I suffered for 10 years from this crap and went to several doctors about it. It was not until I talked to a homeopathic nutritionist and she informed me of this supplement is when I got some relief.

I have found that my IBS-type symptoms have dramatically decreased while eating better. Keeping a high fiber intake, low fat and low starch seems to be the key to keeping it in check most of the time.

I have always had digestive issues, some doctors think it might be IBS, others think I am simply lactose-intolerant, yet others think I might have some food allergies and food intolerances. For me, dealing with this (and I appreciate people with crohns or celiacs have it much worse) is not necessarily about eating cleaner but about eating what is right for me, and that means limiting my dairy intake, limiting my intake of processed carbs, and generally limiting my intake of processed foods cause I seem to react badly to many commercial preservatives. As a result that does mean I eat better, because I end up eating more whole grain food, I cook mainly from scratch and I am less tempted to get a sweet treat from the bakery ... However I will still indulge, and sometimes overdo it, with home baked treats .... Clean for not clean, cookies are cookies!
