I've seen tons of posts on these calorie burning- exercise tracking things... who has one? which is the better bang for your buck? what do they REALLY do? how accurate are they?

Any advice would be helpful!

  • I've been wondering the same thing. My hubby and I have been seriously considering purchasing a Fitbit for the past couple of weeks. A few days ago in the message board threads there seems to have been some synching problems with the Fitbit and I was curious to see if those were resolved yet and if it's ever happened before.

I went onto CNET.com and looked at the Fitbit review there several days ago, maybe I'll try to find BodyBugg and compare the two since no one here in the community has responded since you started this thread.

I'm thinking of buying a heart rate monitor to do my calorie burn tracking. Seems like the one I'm looking at (Polar Ft40) will do everything people are saying the fitbit does. Gonna have to do more research myself!

I went back and found reviews for both the Fitbit and Body Bug. So far, I'm with Fitbit based on all the reviews and feedback here on MFP. I like the graphs and sleep tracker along with the how it does all the work for you figuring out the calories burned. Now I want to Check out the Heart rate monitor posted above..I'm also torn because I was considering a garmin as well..hmm decisions...

That looks really nice! The only negative thing though, I don't want to pay monthly fees to use the flowlink. Here's a link to the review:

I am in the same boat.. I might just bite the dang bullet and get the fitbit... I don't wanna have to have something around my chest all the time..(polarF??). I like the thought of clip and leave it!

Actually, I had the bodybug and didn't like it. I sent it back. Then I ordered the FitBit and it is ok. But I love the MP Slim Coach that the contestants on the Biggest Loser use. It tells you if you need to burn more calories to reach your goal. It is the best one out of
all three. But that's just my opinion....Check it out for yourselves..... Issy

I bought a fitbit after a bunch of research., I like it although it does tally up lots of calories on a super busy day where I've got a workout + lots of running around to do. I just don't eat all the calories back. So far so good. However, I am going to add a heart rate monitor to my fitness technology collection to ensure I'm working hard enough. Buying after an evening of research the Ironman Road Trainer for women (mid size)
  • I used a bodybugg for almost two years - LOVVEEDDD it. :) Love love love bodybuggs. If I could find mine [lost it in a move], I would start using it again. :)

I have a Bodymedia Fit (same maker of Bodybugg) Love it!
  • I have a body bug. They are pretty accurate but the downside is you have to pay a yearly access fee to the website where you download your info.

I found out I burn more calories sleeping than I do sitting at my desk. I also found out I burn 10 calories per body pound whereas an average woman will burn 11 calories per body pound.

Also you need to log your food there too....not fun having to keep two food journals

I bought mine through my gym (24HrFitness).

    OWW~

I have a Bodymedia and LOVE it. Yes, you have to pay the monthly fee ($6.95 a month), but I am a data freak and it keeps me on track. I don't mind having to track in MFP and Bodymedia, I just keep everything in sync. I log everything in fitness pal and then at then mid day I transfer it to BodyMedia and transfer my exercise to MFP.

I like that I don't have to guess when I'm burning calories and how much I've done, how many steps I have taken. It also reminds me when I'm sitting at my desk all day that I need to get up and move around.

My husband was considering getting a fitbit but once he did some research he found it's basically just a glorified pedometer. The sleep is not accurate on the fitbit and only detects movement so if you are laying still it shows you as sleeping and when you roll over it shows you as awake.

I also really like my BodyMedia FIT. Works wonderfully, and I love having the data that it gives.
