I poured out 200mls of skimmed milk this morning in an effort to keep track of how many cals/points (i keep an eye on both) i'M taking in just from tea and coffee. I thought, wow, that's loads!. Have had one cup of tea and two coffees and I've used up my allowance already. That it would keep me going a lot longer to be honest. I think I must have been using up about 3 points a day just for the milk in my tea. argh.

But can I give up tea?! no I can NOT. I pity heroin addicts because I can't give up a lovely cup of tea (five times a day) plus caffiene levels topped up with two or three coffees.

I switched to drinking Rooibos (red bush) tea, which is caffeine free and really nice with a slice of fresh lemon or a few drops of lemon juice.

Or how about trying some unsweetened soy milk in your tea/coffee?
  • I was a caffeine junkie not too long ago (4 weeks). I still have a lo-carb Monster Energy every morning, but am starting to consider giving that up. Recently, I would drink 3-4 caffeinated drinks in addition to my morning Monster. (not a coffee drinker)
Since I started working out 5-6 days/week, and eating better- I've got so much extra energy, I'm not needing the caffeine. Maybe a slight change in nutrition/fitness is all you need to help curb the addiction?

I'm trying to ignore the voice in my head right now, it is telling me to go and turn on the kettle and make more tea. Because it's been about an hour since I last had a cup. My body is confused. My head is confused. I wonder if i poured some boiling water in to a mug and just sipped at it, would it help??? i think i'm hardwired to be holding a hot mug of something.

Would you drink it without milk?
I wouldn't drink any of the Lyons/Barry's stuff now, but Earl Grey or Lady Grey (my favourite) is lovely on its own. And I've always drank my coffee black anyway.

Milk - or calcium rather, is very important for your diet though (I should keep that in mind myself a bit more)

    Hi Siannah!

i think I could get used to coffee without milk but NOT tea. Also, tea without milk really stains the cup so I don't want my teeth to end up that colour. I have to just sit out that feeling. Count cups of tea like I'd count anything else. It is bizarre how hard it is.

I quite like ginger tea but lately I can't find it. It's always ginger and LEMON (bleurgh) or ginger and hibiscus. hibiscus?! wtf??
I must make my own ginger tea.

And I can tolerate the occassional peppermint tea as well. I'll have to buy some later.
  • I used to drink coffee, not for the caffiene because I always did decaf as the caffiene got my heart doing flip flops & I hated the feeling, but love the flavor of coffee. I could never drink coffee black and did not like it unsweetened, so was adding those sweetened flavored creamers. LIke you, I realized how much I was using and decided to switch to tea because I could drink it without sweetener. To eliminate more sugar, I switched from cow's milk to unsweetened soymilk and have never fet happier...lower calories, only 1 g sugar. A few weeks back, I used some cow's milk in my tea & thought I would gag as it was much too sweet.

So my recommendation is to give the unsweetened soy milk a try in your tea
PS: re: the caffiene...one cup of regular black tea in the morning the rest of the day is decaf....and my heart thanks me.

Ps @siannah, are lady grey and earl grey different? I never knew that. I am not crazy about the floral bouquet of Earl Grey. Is Lady Grey a bit floral as well? It sounds posh though! I'd love to walk into a cafe and say "a cup of Lady Grey please"

a cup of tea with milk and half a sugar is 25 cals, take away the sugar it is 11 cals. Hardy worth stressing over, i'd say.

200 ml of skim milk is what, 75 calories? It's not really enough to worry about.

Lady Grey is pretty much the same as Earl Grey, but milder. It's nice.

LOL. It's more citrussy. I get it in Dunnes/Tesco, don't think many cafes have it!
  • Try switching to almond milk, It took some time for me to get use to it but if you use the unsweetened Its only 35 calories per cup and there is only 1 sugar. I loved it in my coffee.

How about green, white, or herbal tea?

Hate to be the harsh one on here, but from the sounds of it you're either going to have to drink tea you don't like or stop drinking it altogether.
