EXERCISE AND HRMs - HELP....

Hi,

I have just done 42 minutes on the air strider which is a slightly lower impact piece of equipment than a elliptical trainer. I did 7000 strides which averages out 164 strides per minute. My HRM said I burned 739 calories but whilst I was slightly out of breath and a bit sweaty, I get a lot more hot and sweaty doing Davina's fitness DVD. Is this calorie burn right??? I entered onto MFP that I burned 334 calories.

P.S. I am 175lb and 5ft 2, I know it all depends on weight and height.

Thank you

That does seem like a lot. When I used to run for an hour I would burn about 600 cals, although I was a bit lighter, so it's probably not far off. If you're confident you have entered details such as age, weight etc correctly into your HRM then it is probably right or at least pretty close. Make sure the chest strap is making good contact and see what you get the next time you do it. That is a great burn  I think your estimate that you entered into MFP sounds a little low though.

Can you clarify as to what kind of HRM you have? Does it have a chest strap?

    Thank you.

I have a Pulse Sonic HRM with a chest strap. I did have a Polar FT2 but realised that it didn't include calories burnt. Want a FT7/FT11, but can't afford one at the moment :grumble:

That's about 17.5 cals per minute, which seems high to me, especially given the "slightly out of breath" comment.
