Natural living. Healthy lifestyle.

My main goal in life is to live as much of a natural life as possible.
Does anyone here who has successfully not eat junk food, processed food- pretty much a natural diet?
Vegans and vegetarians?
Anyone?
I would love to eat as naturally as possible and want to live without all of the rubbish that I am currently craving for.
Any advice how to completely give it up? I have given up alcohol and cigarettes... nearly 3 months sober

Good for you on the giving up of cigarettes!!! My advice would be don't try to give everything up at once....it will be too hard on yourself
Start small, work your way into it and read lots!!!!!! I made many changes through things I read in books and online

Congrats on giving up the alcohol/cigarettes! I'm still working on drinking less... it's a tough one.
Before I answer, how do you define "natural"? Nothing processed? Only whole foods? Local? Organic? Are finances a factor? There are so many different terms, so it's kind of difficult to help before knowing what your goal is0 -
I'm going as natural as humanly possible. I am trying to talk my BF into buying more local free-range meat, but it's been a toughie there. Even though the meat is way better!
I will not ever support a vegan lifestyle, and vegetarian is still tough but can do it healthy. The problem is you need complete protein to stay healthy. The easiest way to get it is from meat and dairy products. It can be done with supplements and careful eating, but I know very few people who successfully stayed on a vegetarian diet for long.
I like the paleo diet. It's about eating natural, unprocessed foods. None of the raw meat stuff, we knew about fire way back when and could cook our meat! But moving away from all the really processed foods and more natural as they are type foods is healthy.
Well, I guess that's my two cents!0 -

I am a vegetarian so no meat or fish. I don't eat eggs or drink milk, do eat cheese and butter though. And if milk and eggs are in processed food I usually eat that.
By natural I mean as clean as possible- vegetables, fruit, seeds, nuts, organic. Not too complicated. I am a student also so I don't know if this makes any difference.
I have been eating terribly at the moment and have always wanted to eat this way I just don't know where to start and whats the best way to go about it0 -

Thank you for your input but I really can't stomach meat or fish. I would love to completely move away from the processed food though0 -

For me its about small changes. I try to limit the amount of packaged food I eat. This obviously starts at the grocery store, so for the most part I snack on fruits/veggies. I choose whole meat, dairy and grains. Today's menu: Greek yogurt with ezekiel bread and fruit for breakfast. Egg salad sandwich with ezekiel bread for lunch. Sardines in oil with spinach for dinner. Snacks are apple, orange, carrots and a whey protein shake. The whey protein is probably more processed than it should be but I try to eat clean 80% of the time. i feel so much better. I remember Jillian Michael's said somethign to the effect of "give your body food it knows what to do with. Your body doesn't recognize or know what to do with a Twinkie". So true. There are some great posts today about "Food Rules". A great place to start.0

Oh congrats to you too. Sobriety is quickly becoming my best decision ever!
I didn't really have much food (poor student) but I just got rid of a few tins that have been in there for a long time and cheap pasta
I will go shopping Wednesday and stock up on a few healthy treats... I think the best way for me to do this is cut out as much as I can and slowly remove more as time goes bythank you

I found the most engaging way to embrace a natural lifestyle was to branch out. I gave up shampoo and conditioner, using olive oil after showing my hair with a shea butter shampoo that actually gets rancid if I don't use it fast enough (what a concept! Means it's got real stuff in it!).
I also gave up face wash and toner, using natural oils mixed with water.
Finding a lifestyle change, in my opinion, is much easier when everything is backed up by your own actions. I also found out how much money and resources you waste by mindlessly buying everyday consumer items.
Good luck to you, and may you find your place and purpose that feeds your soul

I am working on this wholeheartedly, and this is what got me started:

Can you go into more detail on these products. Where do you get them? Are they as effective?
I'm trying to switch to vegetable glycerin for miniaturization, but it is also too sticky.
I just ordered some Dr. bonners unscented soap for hand washing and body wash.
But I would not know where to start for shampoo and conditioner (I have very thick dark hair that needs deep conditioning and oily skin).

It truly is something that does not happen over night! Not sure if someone already suggested this but the Eat Clean series of books is great for this. The magazine is great too.
It has taken me a good year to truly get to natural eating and living, still not perfect but then again who is0 -

Great advice... I have dreadlocks so only use essential oils, I don't use any products on my body apart from organic natural soaps, I don't use facebook, I don't watch TV, I don't shave, I dislike money and so the next thing for me is a healthier, natural diet
I am all about being natural, I just need to change my eating habits0 -

I have locks too! You can wash with baking soda and apple cider vinegar for a pretty good cleanse. I spay my hair with water that has essential oils (lavendar, tea tree & rosemary), coconut oil, avocado oil and olive oil everyday.
Also I have been looking to be more natural myself. The last 4 weeks I tried a raw / juicing diet. It was supposed to be a juice fast but I wanted more protein so I added nuts. Then I added boile eggs (my only cooked food).0 -

About once a week I will have "junk" food. But even then I control the portion and what it is. Everything else I try to make myself. I have a dairy allergy so that helps with the junk food because most of it contains dairy. So if I want pizza, I have to make it. Therefore, it going to be healthier than ordering one. But 6.5 days of the week I try to eat mostly whole foods or homemade meals. I'm not perfect but I try to eat as healthy as possible. Prep work has saved me a lot of the time. I make huge batches of healthy soups so I can always have them to fall back on. I don't keep junk in the house except my husbands and all of that contains dairy. I will say that my daily menu can seem boring to the everyday person, but I like it just fine.0

hello there
i'm a vegan.
i highly recommend you read The China Study if you're interested in a whole foods, plant diet. x0 -
This is a journey I'm constantly on and constantly working on. A few reasons for this. The first is that I'm at an extreme high risk for breast cancer so I try to keep my life as clean as possible to do anything I can from having it happen. The second is my children. When I realized that my daughter's hair products had formaldehyde in them (a product made for children) I freaked out and read as much as I could on chemicals in our foods and products.
Of course it can be difficult on our budget but we try to eat whole foods and organic, buy local when we can, etc. Chemical free personal products for the children is something I insist on.
Another thing is my family has really moved toward Voluntary Simplicity. We have made the choice to have less so that I can stay home with the kids. We live in a neighbourhood that allows me to walk everywhere so we own one car. I love all the walking I do!0 -
I am veg, lots of allergies so I eat lots of whole foods and cook mostly from scratch.0
