How long after conception....

before you experience symptoms of pregnancy? We've been 'doing it' un-protected for a month now. I don't want to wait until I skip a period before I know, but it may be too early to get a pregnancy test. I'm not due to start another cycle until February 24th.

Symptoms I've had in the last few days:
Fatigue
Sore Breasts
Cramping in the lower abdomen
White discharge and a little spotting
HUNGER!

Any advice would be helpful! I'm anxious, and I'm ready to be preggers, even though I haven't reached my weight goal......

That leads me to another question..... If I don't know I'm pregnant, will I hurt the fetus if I still diet before I find out? What about after I find out, would it be ok to diet a little? I only have about 18lbs to lose, but I don't want to be a heiffer after I have a baby! I know I can lose it then, but you know!

It could be possible symptoms!! You could go to the doctor and take a test there (they'll do blood tests possibly) to see if you're pregnant. Good luck!! I wish you well!

Hubby and I tried a year and a half before we finally got pregnant. I can say if you are actively trying to conceive you will notice PMS and other pre period symptoms much more, and because they are pretty much the same as early pregnancy symptoms it's very hard to keep track and tell before a missed period. Eating healthy won't hurt the baby and should be continued throughout your entire pregnancy (I made the mistake of thinking "Im pregnant I can eat whenever and whatever I want" before seeing I was gaining way to much to quickly). The only thing I used to ease up on during my 2 week weight was ab exercises. Other then that I kept up with the elliptical and bike, until I got my positive pregnancy test and seen my OB at 8 weeks who told me to stick with just walking. You can get a test that tests about 5 days before your missed period, but even that, all depending on your body and the HCG produced, you may not get an accurate result until the day your period is due.

Sounds like you have quite a number of the usual symptoms. Dieting and exercise at this point will not be a problem. That said, if you are pregnant be sure to talk to your doctor if you intend to try and lose a few pounds during the pregnancy. I think it's relatively ok during the first trimester to still lose some weight, but I surely am no expert!

You may or may not be pregnant.

Trust me, you CANNOT tell until you are far enough along that you get a positive pregnancy test (you miss your period). There is no way to tell before then. Don't stress over this. And yes, you can still diet until you find out.
  • I would think it'd be ok to lose a few more pounds in the first trimester, since so many women lose a few pounds then anyway just from morning sickness....but I'm no expert!

It would be REALLY early for you to be having symptoms if your period isn't due for another 10 days. Not impossible, but unlikely. Spotting can be a good sign, though. Some women have implantation spotting when babe-to-be snuggles down in the uterine lining.

With #1 I was clueless until I took the test. With #2, I was throwing up a week before I was due for AF but chalked it up to a virus, until I saw 2 pink lines. Best of luck to you!

Edited to add, you will be absolutely fine dieting until you find out. Really, very little you do this early on affects the embryo. The egg nourishes it until the placenta is established and takes over later in the first trimester.

Well if your period are 28 days long this is how it breaks down:

    Day 14 ovulate

6-12 days after that for the egg to implant and start producing HCG.

Honestly if you are not due for another period until Feb 24 that means you are 4 days past ovulation meaning the egg hasn't even begun to implant hence no new hormones are being produced. It's too early for blood tests, HPT's etc. The reason for the sore BB's, discharge etc is from the excess progesterone the corpus luteum is currently producing. Sorry to burst your bubble but it's just not possible yet. Give it until you at least 10 DPO (day past ovulation) then test. while I wish you the best, don't stress over what hasn't even happened yet!

Also dieting will not hurt your embryo, once you find out amp up your nutrients calories etc, but most of all you should already be taking a prenatal.

Many of those symptoms are the same as PMS symptoms, but you'll notice them more when you are more aware of them, like when waiting for a pregnancy. As for "dieting" during pregnancy, definitely talk with your doctor, but you probably should be eating at least at maintenance and eating healthy just like you have presumably been doing. Baby benefits from healthy food just like you do. It's not really a good idea to cut calories when you're pregnant, and if you're eating responsibly, you will gain what you need to and generally not excessively. I gained 30 lbs with each of my pregnancies, which is the recommended amount.

I had a positive test 4 days before my missed period-but it was so light I wasn't sure it was actually there. Took a total of 8 tests over the next few days. I had no symptoms, but we were actively trying. The only symptoms I had the entire pregnancy was the fatique and increased appetite. Oh, and the gas. Oh man-I hope your prepared for that.

Eating healthy and exercising should definitely be continued through your pregnancy.

    Good luck!

That's pretty early, I don't even think the baby would be implanted yet at that point. Do you know when you ovulated? With my last 3 pregnancies, I knew 10 days after ovulation for sure...but it was still only like 5 days before my cycle was due.

Um I was severely tired and it was before my period, I felt it was probably due to pregnancy, took multiple test in which read negative, waited 4 days, it was positive and this was 1.5-2 weeks before my period was due. It all depends on your HCG count to whether a test will register it and different pregnancy test can read different numbers on HCG, so just depends. You sound pregnant, of course you will get people on here that want to be a smart *kitten*, but just wait til the weekend and try. As for dieting, I wouldnt take diet pills or anything like that, but if you are eating healthy I dont see nothing wrong with it. GL :)

And I should add the doctors put me at 7-10 days pregnant and that held consistent my whole pregnancy. You can start to have the symptoms early, it is just that most dont. I had plenty of other reasons I could have put off for causing my sleepiness (like a newborn and 2 yr old LOL), but no, I was pregnant again. Just give it a little bit, if you are having the symptoms right now, by this weekend hopefully it would show up and be pretty accurate.

Those were all symptoms I had during my first month of pregnancy with my first child. I don't know how your diet will affect the baby but if you think you might be prego I would suggest going to maintenance mode until you know one way or the other.

Not to scare you but I was very sick with my first child. I ended up only gaining 11 lbs (all in the second half of the pregnancy) and three weeks after my 7lb 14 oz healthy baby boy was born I weighed 16 lbs less than when I had gotten pregnant. How you eat will affect how much you gain, your ob should be able to help you come up with a healthy diet.

Basically, WSS. I think it's wishful thinking on your part at this point and time. Give it a week and then see what's up.

Are you experiencing any sudden urges to drive to the closest Babies R Us? Do you suddenly want to trade your current vehicle in, for a mini van? I think these two symptoms show up about three days post ovulation. It's true, I read it on the internet.

Bhahahahaha.... I love this! LOL you are so bad!

Thanks everyone.... I just now looked at the calendar again and recounted, and I'm actually suppose to start my period tomorrow and end around the 23rd/24th! OMG..... I didn't count the days correctly last time, and I"ve pretty much always been on the pill so never really worried about my cycle.

We'll see how it goes this weekend, and may take a PT one day! I feel funny.

    Thanks again! Love and Hugs

I don't mean to be one of those smart *kitten*, but unless you have a highly unusual menstrual cycle this is extremely unlikely. The body normally ovulates around 12 to 16 days before your next cycle, so most women would barely be ovulating at this time. There is no way they would know if they had conceived yet: even if the egg had managed to be penetrated by a sperm cell it wouldn't be implanted yet, it would still be moving toward the uterus. If you did find out this early, perhaps you ovulated quite early or had a particularly short follicular phase.

Go and get a pregnancy test from the shops. You could piddle on it and let us know in 3 minutes!!

    wootwooo xx

Or you could do what I did and piddle on it and forget about it and think it had turned positive by default because I'd left it so long haha then have to do it again.

    I have a 14 month old :)

    I hope you are :)
    I'm about 8 weeks myself (morning sickness...bleh!)
I didn't have any signs before my period with this one, but with my first child, a few days before I was due for my period my boobs started hurting like mad.
  • So the PT last wednesday was NEGATIVE, but I STILL haven't started my period. My boobs hurt, I'm crampy, legs hurt, low back hurts.... all signs of PMS and Pregnancy, so I don't know. I may go get another test tonight and try it in the morning!

I always felt utterly exhausted within about 3 weeks. But also, the need to pee often started that early too.

Do you have a Dollar Tree near you? They have AWESOME HPT's so you can just keep a stack of them on hand. With both of mine I got a positive with those sticks before my next AF was due. About 9-11days past ovulation.

TEST if you think it's possible! GO Pee on the stick!

Did you test with first morning pee? If it was last Wednesday - try again! If you are, it should show up by now. Just wait till morning or at least 3-4 hrs since peeing so that you get the good, concentrated stuff! Keeping my fingers crossed for you!
  • Picabo97, yes I did pee first thing in the morning, as soon as I got up! We do have a dollar tree here, I've been using the ones from Dollar General, but I'll try those this weekend!
  • Ok, three tests this weekend were POSITIVE! Yay! but then I had some bloody tissue pass on Sunday. I've been cramping the entire time, is that normal? Going to doctor tomorrow.

Could be normal, might not be. Unfortunately, only time will tell...... Just try to relax and not worry about it too much.

Congrats on the BFP (BIG FAT POSITIVE)!!!!!

Unless you are actively charting your menstrual cycle you have no way of knowing when ovulation occurs. A 28 day cycle with ovulation on day 14 is AVERAGE. People can have a 28 day cycle and ovulate on day 10. People can have a 28 day cycle and ovulate on day 23. I have done both. Accurate charting and if pregnancy does not occur in 6 months in women under 30 and 1 year in women over 30 means you need to head to see your ob. It could be something very simple, cheap and easy to fix.

This is an excellent charting site and it is free.
