Question about periods - oh joy!

My period's batty. This is the first time in my history of periods (except for being pregnant) that it's not being "normal". I'm getting it way more often than I should (or want). So my theory goes two ways - the only changes in my life right now that I can see affecting my cycle is #1 I'm getting older. I don't think 42 is too young to be in pre-menopause. And #2 I've been "dieting"/exercising/changing my eat habits for about two months now. Can the latter have an affect on my period?

Periods change. Period.
I just feel there needs to be a "reason" behind it since I've been around 28 days since I was 11-years-old. Now we're looking at 14-16. No me gusta!0 -

See your gyno. Later periods/longer cycles aren't all that big a deal, but early periods are more of a concern. Take it from the 46 year old who's having a cystoscopy tomorrow, had a pelvic and transvaginal U/S earlier this week, and is struggling to get a diagnostic MRI scheduled asap--early periods should be checked out by your gyno. More likely to NOT be a disaster, by why wait around and risk it?

Sounds like time for a visit to your doctor as there are some test they can run to rule out/confirm metapause, or other causes...Good luck figuring it out0

I know EXACTLY how you feel. But unfortunately, I don't have an answer. I hate TOM once a month....but sometimes TWICE!!! That's rediculous!
I'm 45 and every month I wish it's the last......my mother had her last period at age 40.0 -

This^ Happened to me when I lost weight the first time around. Mine got better as time passed. The doctor said the same thing.0 -
I'm banking it on the diet/exercise stuff. Our bodies freak out when we start changing things but maybe talk to your gyno too..0

My entire cycle is 19 days from start to finish.
I had a tubal ligation two years ago and that seems to be the cause for me.0 -

I have an extremely irregular period. It happens. My OB-GYN says there's a lot of reasons why it can happen. Birth control is the primary reason. However, hormones/hormone analogs in our food can do it, starting a new or more intense exercise program can do it, changes in diet can do it, stress from work or at home can do it. It's perfectly normal for it to change somewhat, but if it is a significant change for you (more than just a skipped month), you should definitely see your doc!0

Thanks, everyone! I have an appointment on Tuesday (and might I add, this is the first one I've had since my 6-week post-partum appointment in July of 2010!)0
