sugar alcohols and calorie calculation confusion...

I always use low sugar protein bars.... but recently noticed the numbers arent making sense on bars that include "sugar alcohols".

Example:

Metrx protein bar labels says it is 300 calories.
Fat is 9grms (x9= 81 calories)
Protein is 32grms (x4= 128 calories)
Carb is 32grms (x4= 128 calories) TOTAL: 337!!!

Now.... it says 17grms of sugar alcohols under the carb category.... how many calories are in a gram of sugar alcohol. are these subtracted out? do they really not count as calories?

Can anyone explain this to me?

    anyone? :)
  • I was told by a nutritionist(had to see one for Type 2:frown: ) that Sugar Alcohols are treated like Fiber for Carb counts. So if this is true try subtracting the Sugar ALcohol from the Carb total then multiply that number by 4 and see if you get the correct calorie count.
