Itchy while running...

I'm new to running pretty much- just started Couch to 5k yesterday. I noticed as I was running (and have noticed it in the past when I've ran) that my legs, and torso get really itchy when I'm running- usually towards the middle of the run. Anyone else have this happen and/or know what causes it? It's a pretty intense inch and I'd like to prevent it, if possible. Thanks in advance for your help :flowerforyou:

I heard that's the fat burning. I think it goes away when your muscle tones. don't really know though0

Do you use anything like lotion, sunscreen, bug spray... anything that might block off sweat ducts?0

I get a little itchy because I use sunscreen...but I'd rather have my skin protected than not itch.0

That also happens to me. :ohwell: :indifferent:0

Nope, no sunscreens, lotions, etc. That's why it's such a mystery to me!0 -

Its your blood circulating (or rather needing help to circulate). Its like when you get an itch any time, you scratch helps move your blood along, its the same thing here. It happens to me whenever I start a new cardio program (walking, tae bo, whatever). After my body becomes accustomed to the extra blood flow during the workout the itching stops.0

This is actually the most probable explanation. One of the physical adaptations to exercise is an expansion of blood flow to the necessary areas of the body. Our circulatory system has much more "capacity" then we could ever have blood to fill, so the body is constantly "shunting" blood from one area to another, depending on physical needs.
During exercise, as the body warms ups, the capillaries in the skinbed open up as a cooling mechanism. For beginners, this can result in an itching sensation. If it does not lessen over time, there might be other concerns -- e.g. skin allergy --but this is the most likely answer.0 -
I agree it is definitely increased blood flow and circulation. As a Massage Therapist I see this very often with my clients as well as myself during massage. Makes sense that you would see it during increased exercise!0
