Yes you can

We often make excuses for bad decisions -

"IT'S THAT TIME OF MONTH"

"I HAD A HARD DAY"

"I DIDN'T SLEEP WELL"

"IT'S TOO HARD"

You know what, though?

We have free will. No one forces us to make bad decisions.

Regardless of how we feel, we CAN choose to make healthy decisions about how to treat our bodies.

Guess what? When you treat your body well (feeding it nutritious foods, keeping it hydrated, and exercising regularly), a lot of times it helps you feel better.
Even if it doesn't help you feel better right away, it certainly is better than if you had chosen the unhealthy alternative.

So the next time you try to tell yourself that you CAN'T DO IT - can't go exercise, or drink water instead of soda, or eat your veggies, or do whatever other healthy thing you're struggling with - stop yourself. Because you really CAN do it.

/end rant

(btw - I posted this because I caught myself making excuses for poor behavior and decided to change it - you can, too)

    Yes, I can.

Sometimes, it's hard. But that makes doing it even more rewarding, I don't pat myself on the back for doing stuff that's easy, or really desirable.

MFP helps me choose well more often than I choose poorly.

    YAY for MFP!

True! I made excuses last night... and I used the excuse "its my birthday, I shouldn't have to work out."

I don't know if that's necessarily what I meant, although I see where you're coming from.

I think treating yourself occasionally is a good thing, but I mean making excuses not to do what is good for your body because it's just too hard, or you're too upset, or... you get the idea.

Very encouraging....I think its okay to indulge or treat yourself too...but saying i had a bad day so im going to eat this bag of candy is bad bad bad. i used to be that way. "well i feel like crap so im gonna eat a bunch because if i do ill feel better"....never works out that way i just end up feeling worse for eating like a pig.

Thank you so much for posting! A friend shared this with me since I have been having a hard time. However, I WILL recover and I WILL be even better than before :) We can do this.

It is a journey, not a race. Having a misstep does not mean we have lost. We have the time to pick ourselves back up and try again. :)
