I'm not sure, but if the ingredients include anything that does not occur in nature, then yes. They are processed. Try Larabars or Kind Bars. They contain usually 3-5 ingredients, all naturally occurring, and they're DELICIOUS. The only problem is that they're often a bit high in sugar.

Yeah, they've got all sorts of junk in them. Try making your own. It's actually pretty easy!

They are most definately processed however they are delicious and for me, a better choice than getting into a candy bar or something.

Yep, they are processed, if it concerns you, like a previous poster said, hunt for some recipes and make your own...there are some awesome recipes out there! That said...Just like everything else in life Eating Clean doesn't have to be all or nothing...I eat clean MOST of the time, but still grab my favorite Luna Bar once in a while!

I do this a lot. I have multiple recipes. The sugar alcohols give me stomach aches

I promised myself to do it all natural this time around, no shakes or bars because I will not do anything that I will have to stop once I am finished dieting. I want to eat regular foods because it is the best way to make sure you are getting what you need. I honestly don't know how good the shakes and bars are for you. It feels a bit like fake food to me. I would rather get pure protein in the real form like eggs, fish, beans, meats, cheese etc etc.

Definitely make your own instead! So much nicer and you know EXACTLY what's in them.

Any bar is considered a processed food, the only bars that I would consider eating on a regular basis would be quest bars. They are less processed than any other bar I've seen.

If you consider eating clean a strict diet plan, then no, bars are not allowed. To me "eating clean" is just another name for eating whole foods. It's a way of life, not a rigid code. If you want a bar, eat a bar. I like Luna brand. I also eat a ton of fruits veggies, and whole grains everyday. Whatever makes you happy and healthy:)

    Also processed;

    protein powder
    milk
    cheese
    frozen berries and veggies
    olive oil

and the list goes on and on

really processed doesn't mean it's "bad"

Totally Larabars!! They are super basic and natural, most of them are 100% raw too.

I prefer the bar up the street, close to home and to work and completely within stumbling distance of both... definitely clean.
  • Larabars are great! They have flavors like: Banana Nut Bread, Apple Pie, Pecan Pie, Key Lime Pie, Chocolate Pie, etc. (all made from dates, almonds, etc.):drinker: enjoy!

If it has a wrapper it is processed.

I would also like to add that "soy protein isolate" or TVP is a poor choice when making bars at home. Processed ingredients like that won't make a "clean" bar.

Bumble bars are pretty good though. They're essentially sesame seeds and honey

Exactly...and I think raw milk is pretty much illegal in the states, right?
  • I just tried cooking with soy protein isolate. It didn't turn out well D: haha now I know! xD

Vodka is pretty clean (or clear, I confuse the two)...and I hear you can get it at a bar...

I've made my own with whole oats, almond butter, honey (optional) and dark chocolate (chips or powder). Form a loaf, slice into appropriate portions (I do 100 cals), wrap them in waxed paper, and refrigerate. Delicious and clean.

You should try Lara Bars. They're gluten free and they only contain 3-4 natural ingredients. And they're delish. :)

Larabars: Can you get them in the store or only online?

You can get them in pretty much any specialty grocery store (like Whole Foods) and some regular grocery stores. I know that the big chain here has them, but only at some locations (typically the locations in the nicer parts of town). My gym also sells them.

It's illegal to sell, but the loophole is that it's not illegal to drink raw milk from a cow that you own. So people that want raw milk can go to certain farms and buy what are essentially "shares" of a cow that allows them to get a certain amount of milk from their cow.
