how bad is it?

Ok, I just caved and ate chocolate ice cream (just one serving). I am still under my calories for the day...so how bad was that for me? Does splurging once in a while ruin all the hard work? Do I need to get on the treadmill now, or do I just try to do better tomorrow?

I think splurging every now and then is necessary for our sanity :laugh:0 -
it's not that bad. You eon't have to exercise if you have calories left. You can have food in moderation.
Enjoy!!!!0 -
I don't think you did anything wrong at all. Moderation is the key to a lifestyle change.0

Thanks Ladies!
I feel better now. And you have a great point about moderation...the old me would have used a huge bowl and served myself at least 3 servings in one giant pile! The little bowl with the little serving was very satisfying.0 -
However-- why not jump on the treadmill anyway-- make you feel better.0

Of course it's better to "spend" your calories on food that is more nutritous, however, you will never stick to a "diet" unless you get to have some fun periodically. As long as you don't have a party too often and you keep the party under control you're fine. What you did is what is known as MODERATION. This is a skill that most overweight Americans SUCK at! Congratulations you know how to enjoy, a little, once in a while!0

It's a proven fact that there is no appreciable difference in results between 100% compliance to a diet and 90%.
This 10% not only helps you stay motivated the rest of the time...but it does not cause any harm to your diet.
I eat 42 meals/snacks in a given week. Of those, I plan to be non-compliant on at least 3 of them. Whether it's a bowl of ice cream, a slice of pizza or whatever. I plan those meals and enjoy every one of them.
Food guilt is like carrying around a bag of bricks. All you have to do is set it down and walk away.0
