Ok, I just caved and ate chocolate ice cream (just one serving). I am still under my calories for the day...so how bad was that for me? Does splurging once in a while ruin all the hard work? Do I need to get on the treadmill now, or do I just try to do better tomorrow?

I think splurging every now and then is necessary for our sanity

it's not that bad. You eon't have to exercise if you have calories left. You can have food in moderation.

    Enjoy!!!!

I don't think you did anything wrong at all. Moderation is the key to a lifestyle change.

I feel better now. And you have a great point about moderation...the old me would have used a huge bowl and served myself at least 3 servings in one giant pile! The little bowl with the little serving was very satisfying.

However-- why not jump on the treadmill anyway-- make you feel better.

Of course it's better to "spend" your calories on food that is more nutritous, however, you will never stick to a "diet" unless you get to have some fun periodically. As long as you don't have a party too often and you keep the party under control you're fine. What you did is what is known as MODERATION. This is a skill that most overweight Americans SUCK at! Congratulations you know how to enjoy, a little, once in a while!

It's a proven fact that there is no appreciable difference in results between 100% compliance to a diet and 90%.

This 10% not only helps you stay motivated the rest of the time...but it does not cause any harm to your diet.

I eat 42 meals/snacks in a given week. Of those, I plan to be non-compliant on at least 3 of them. Whether it's a bowl of ice cream, a slice of pizza or whatever. I plan those meals and enjoy every one of them.

Food guilt is like carrying around a bag of bricks. All you have to do is set it down and walk away.
