Best reason for drinking lots of water

We all know it's important to drink lots of water for various reasons - stay hydrated, aid metabolism, burn calories running to the bathroom, etc.

One of the best reasons I heard was from a health instructor I had in college. She asked us how much water we thought we used during a typical shower to wash the outside of our bodies. Most of us came up with couple gallons or so. Then she said:

"Why would you think you need any less water to wash the INSIDE of your body?"

Until she put it that way I never really thought about it. Excellent point though!

Why wouldn't we think we would need less water to wash the inside of our bodies?

To answer her question to the class more directly....hydration isn't a shower, in much the same way that when having water run over my skin to remove dirt isn't the same as removing toxins and waste from my internal organs.

I mean what she said is a cute sound bite, but it makes no sense.

I'll take any cute sound bite I can get to help me drink more water, and the thought of washing my insides will definitely have me reaching for another glass. Thanks for sharing!

Pretty sure she didn't mean it to be completely literal, but rather get us thinking about drinking more water.....

So the health instructor in college wanted to get students to think about drinking more water by using a false comparison instead of going over the health benefits of staying adequately hydrated.

I guess I'm out of the norm, but I'm not sure that would have worked for me.

    Different strokes I guess.
