So, I posted a few days ago that I have been trying to jog on the treadmill and I was exhausted after a minute or two, I had a lot of great advice from the MFP community. Well, since then, I am happy to say that I have been jogging anywhere from 5-10 minutes nonstop and I can't say that it feels effortless, but it feel a lot more comfortable. I'm focusing on my breathing and it seems to be getting easier.
Now, my new issue is my knees. I'm not a spring chicken anymore, and I know that, lol. But yesterday and today, I''ve felt a little tension in my knees. They don't really hurt, they just feel week. So I need more advice. Do you think it's shoes? I'm wearing an older pair of sneakers that are really light and comfy until I can get to the running shop. Or do you think it's my posture, or could I could be trying to do too much and I need to take it easier? I'm jogging at only a 4.9 and .5 incline at the most, so I feel like I'm taking it easy.
I've decided to take a break yesterday and today and see if that helps, but I would like to know what you guys and gals think as well.

  • I can say that from my experience bad shoes can make a huge difference in the quality of my run. I recently bought a new pair of adidas and they feel great. Also what I try to do on a treadmill is run at a slight incline of 1-2. A good friend of mine is a marathon runner and made that suggestion to me. When you increase the incline slightly you'll take out a lot of the impact on your knees and it doesn't diminish your distance too much.

The best way to minimize and prevent pain and injuries is to run with good form. This will reduce the impact forces that cause pain and injuries in the shin and knee. Look at the following websites.
