Health benefits of green tea

Good morning everyone. I wanted to get a couple quick opinions on green tea. I started drinking green tea a couple weeks ago to replace my morning coffee. It has worked really well to replace that hot morning beverage I crave when I get to work. I'm also fortunate because my company provides it for us. Sometimes I drink between 3 and 4 cups a day, and I seem to feel great when I do. I don't add anything at all to it (I never added anything to my coffee but cream either) and rather enjoy the taste of the beverage itself. I have read conflicted things on what the perceived health benefits of green tea are. Most seem to agree that it is loaded with anti oxidents but some places claim it aids with weight loss while others disagree. Some say it will aid with metabolism but only in large quantities. At the moment I'm content with guiding my weight loss by reducing calories and exercising. I'm not looking for any kind of a quick fix. I mostly wanted to get some opinions on the subject and see what everyone thought. For now I'm content to keep it as a replacement to coffee. Hope everyone is having a good friday.

I've been wondering about this too. I'm not a hot drink person but did a quick research and decided to try taking green tea extract pills with my morning dose of vitamins. So far it seems to have helped boost my metabolism and keeping me more energized throughout the day, but this could also be because I've been at this for a couple of months now and with losing weight, feeling better - the energy levels are up anyways. I'm going to keep trying this for the next month (finish the bottle) and see what happens I guess. I figure it can't hurt.

I drank it every day for 6 weeks instead of coffee when I was losing weight. Now I drink a cup of coffee and a cup of green tea. Not sure if it really helps with weight loss, but I figure it can't hurt. I also drink it without anything other than sometimes cinnamon.
Note: I do not think it tastes very good, but I can manage to drink it.
  • I prefer tea (any tea) over coffee. When I stopped drinking coffee I noticed that if I did have a cup occasionally it would rip apart my stomach for the whole day. I don't know if green tea has any real benefits, but I feel like it's good for me and that's enough for me!

In the summer I love making a pot of hot green tea then after it cools I pour it into a pitcher with ice and some mint sprigs and a tad of truvia ...Yummy, not one for the hot green tea though :( Good luck hope it works for you!

I have noticed the dieuretic affect of some of the teas as well. This is good advice. Thanks!

green tea is wonderful for you! in my opinion: if you're drinking it every morning in place of coffee, it's increasing your water intake (though it is also a diuretic, it doesn't have as much caffeine as coffee so the water you're drinking with your tea is still beneficial!) and if it's a drink you enjoy that feels soothing and satisfying and has no calories but no chemical additives either (unlike something chemically based like coke zero) i say it's a great choice! the caffeine probably helps with your energy level which probably helps with your weight loss, even if the claims about metabolism and anti-oxidants weren't true. whenever i have green tea, it feels very "clean and green" - it feels like one of the many choices i can make in my day that reinforces a positive, healthy lifestyle. i think i'll go make myself a cup right now!
    enjoy!
