Would it be healthy to lose a dress size in a month?

I'm not sure how much weight I'd have to lose, but I have a formal dinner coming up in March and I the dress I want to order only comes in size 12 and smaller. I'm a 14. Since I'm already working on losing weight, I figure I should be able to lose enough to fit the dress by the 24th of March. I've never had to lose weight, so I don't know if a dress size in a month is healthy.

Many people report going down a size doing the 30 Day Shred. Going that route your building muscle which takes less space than fat so the measurements go down. I have no way of equating that to weight though since most people report not going far down on the scale. Personally, I went down a dress size in November (treadmill only) so I'd say it's doable. I lost about 12 pounds in 5-6 weeks.

Oh and that's not water weight. :)

TOTALLY DO-ABLE!! Depending on how much weight you have to lose (which doesn't sound like much), you can safely fluctuate sizes pretty quickly. Focus more on your INCHES rather than POUNDS lost.
Detoxification results in the quickest slim-down of the mid-section, as that's where most of our excess (and toxins, fat, etc.) are stored. *As a side note, the "beer belly" seen in both men and women is typically a symptom of a colon that's holding onto a lot of excess waste; which detoxification can help reduce dramatically.*
Eat more raw, fresh foods, eliminate processed food and sugars and drink tons of water! This sets the stage for your body to do what it wants (which is to lose excess/harmful weight and toxins). Any additional exercise you do will further advance the process.
Try to incorporate total-body exercises in your workouts. The more muscles you engage, the more calories you burn!
Good luck and keep us posted! Feel free to add me as a friend, if you'd like! :)

    This is VERY subjective.

The closer you are to your weight loss goals .... the slower the weight comes off. 10 pounds is more like 18 weeks (!) ... when you only have 10 pounds to lose. Sure the first week's numbers may look good (could just be water).

If you have not exercised in years, and start 30 Day Shred now, you will lose some serious inches. If you're already fit .... not so much.

I say go for it ..... if all else fails .... its good motivation and there's always Spanx.

I don't want to "detox" because I'm nursing and I don't want any toxins getting in my breastmilk, but I'll keep that in mind for when she stops nursing :)

I know about the muscle thing. I went into Basic Training for the Army at 130lbs and a size 8, came out 142lbs and a size 6. I'm 172 as of this morning.

I need to lose about 20 total to get to pre baby weight (from my first) and about 30 to get to where I want to be ideally.

It's totally doable and as you showed, putting on "weight" doesn't necessarily correlate to dress size, so as long as initially you don't go nuts over the scale and just take measurements, I genuinely think you can do it!.

I think going from a 14 to a 12 is definitely doable, whereas going from a 4 to a 2 probably isn't. The more excess fat your body is carrying, the easier it comes off - especially at the beginning of weight loss, if you're just starting out.

I started MFP for New Years, and I've already gone from a 12 to a 10 - it's only been about a month.

Scale weight will never determine what size clothes a person wears. Inches and pounds of fat loss will. It's good to do total body workouts and even cardio/strength workouts and solo strength workouts. If I can suggest something, I would suggest you do the total body workout you are doing and incorporate toning workouts to, to be able to get in that dress.

If you can get your hands on Core Rhythms workouts. Do so. They help with the inches lost.
