So after seeing the scale yesterday and being a member all this time but not really making any changes I need motivational help...I really have like 100 pounds to lose and that is a scary thought. I have been just lazy enough to lazy my way into a full on 100 pounds! I feel like I am alone in this goal, I see the forums for goals like this but I don't really see the postings, anyone else out there with this HUGE goal?:explode:

Yeh .. I am. Unfortunately. Trying to break it down into small goals so the big picture doesn't look so overwhelming. Some days it is just going meal by meal .. lol.0

Yeah I agree. If I look at the big (big) goal I find that I am overwhelmed and just want to eat everything. But If I take it meal by meal or day by day. I think I can stick to it.0

You can do it! I had approximately 150 pounds to lose. I have lost 95. It took me 14 months. Try breaking it down into smaller goals. I started at 333 pounds. My first goal was under 300. My next goal was 50 pounds gone, etc. You can do it too! Just think where you'll be a month from now, 6 months from now, year from now! Feel free to add me.0

I started at 323 a few months before starting myfitnesspal and lost 15 lbs by myself. Now that I have the support system on here, I have lost another 8 lbs. I am 2 lbs away from my first small goal of 25 lbs. I think that cutting down into 25 lbs at a time has helped me and when I am so close to reaching to goal it only makes me all the more willing to get my rear on the treadmill and lose those extra lbs! I still have over 120 lbs left to lose, but KCharron20 and so many others can do it... I will stick to my guns and lose it too!
You can do It!!!!0 -
There are groups specifically geared toward that. I'm in one called: Goal -100 lbs in 2012!!!! I think I found it by searching for 100 lbs. It's nice to set monthly goals and check in with folks who have the same goals as you do.0

That's where I started. It's not an easy road, but it does get easier. I had to think of this as what can I do this week and accept how I did, good or bad. If I only lost a pound or two, try to figure out what the culprit was that kept me from the larger loss I had the week before.
I started setting bigger goals after that, but I couldn't do any of that at first. Have to celebrate any positive change, maybe even over celebrate it to help feel better about how you're doing. Just my two cents, but it is overwhelming if you keep looking at it as a big number.0 -
I can completely emphasize, as I have 150 lbs to lose. Being confined to bed for more than 20 years, over-eating, and medication has really piled on the pounds. I am determined to lose the weight though because, when the time comes, I don't want to be buried in a piano crate. Right now I'll settle for a 100 lbs loss so, want to do this together?0

I lost 70...and it took me setting a big goal with smaller goals along the way. 5 pounds, and then 10 pounds and then 10% of body weight, etc. Like that old adage, "How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time" and while that may not be the best reference for a weight loss site, the principle still stands. You set your mind to doing it a little at a time and celebrate each and every goal being met along the way and you will succeed. Also, don't fret over the "failures" and the mis-steps along the way, they are part of the process, learn from them and continue on.
There is a great support system here, so take advantage of that!0 -
I have over 100 pounds to lose. I find the big number don't intimidate me, it just pushes me to keep on keeping on, so I keep the big number on my ticker.0

Yes, I am almost 100# out also. I agree with the other postings that setting small goals helps it to not feel so overwhelming. I decided to add my short term goals to the description portion of my profile so I can see it regularly, but keep my long term goal as my tracker goal. That way I can think, "ok, if I keep this up I will be X size by this summer, or X poundage by next month."
Whatever you do, don't give up!!0 -
I do as well, and like others who have posted here, I have broken my goals down into smaller chunks. (And I actually started out at 295 at my highest, but had already lost 37 pounds when I started mfp). My first goal was a pair of size 20 pants, which I am sitting in right now. My next goal is to hit 221, which means I will have lost my baby weight from my third child. Then its 199! Small goals make it seem more do-able, so set some, and watch them come and go as you move through this. Feel free to add me as a friend!0

There are actually a number of people who have had this goal and have overcome it. I see the success before and after photos all the time. I think they just took it one step at a time. I noticed they all just started to eat right and once they got a handle on that, they incorporated walking and light exercise and gradually moved onto exercises that really work for them, whether it be running and weights every other day or zumba or what-have-you.
I know it's incredibly overwhelming. When I started I had 60 pounds to lose, which is quite a bit. However, with the incredibly supportive community here and the food logging that keeps me accountable, I have found success with MFP.
The best advice anyone ever gave me is PATIENCE! Weight wasn't gained overnight, so we can't expect to lose it overnight. Just go with what is comfortable at your own pace and don't let people pressure you into doing more than you want to. You will definitely see results as long as you stick with it and never give up.0 -
I have A LOT to lose too. More than you... I agree with the others.. Try not to focus on the big picture. I am doing it in small goals - like 20 lbs. It took me a long time to add this weight and it will take some time to take it off. You know, time passes no matter what we do so we might as well just take one day at a time and feel good about that day. It will add up and we will feel better with each pound lost. I am encouraged by the fact that there are many others in the same boat as me and reading the posts helps motivate me. Keep on keeping on! :flowerforyou: YouCanDoooeyyy!0

Hi there!
I have about 200 pounds to lose so I can VERY much relate to your post. I echo a lot of the other folks in that it's best to set smaller - more attainable goals. For example, I want to get down to 350 so that is my goal right now and once I hit that, then it's to be under 300. I used to keep thinking and thinking about that terrible 200 number and would throw myself into depression because it's such an overwhelming number But to lose 30 pounds? Now that I can handle.
There was a post on here the other day about motivation that my friend shared...get two glass vases and a bunch of glass beads - a color to represent 1 pound, a color to represent 5 pounds - and more colors/pounds if you'd like. The idea was to have a vase filled with those beads representing your current weight and another vase to start to fill when you lost weight so you'd see one go down and the other go up. I think it's a great idea and would like to start that for myself as visual motivation.
Just know you are not alone - that is what keeps me keeping on most days!

The big goals are daunting but they're made of smaller steps. I haven't set a weight loss goal as I don't want an arbitrary number to control my life but informally I'm looking at between 80 and 100 lbs... one pound at a time!!0

Hi There!
I started exactly 32 days ago and have lost 22 lbs! I started at 360lbs now 338...it's completely possible! I haven't broken mine down into mini goals because if I do I will just get lazy and say oh look I hit my goal..but none the less if you want or need support I'm here! Feel free to add me!0 -
Working on a weight loss documentary in LA; I've lost 13 lbs so far, but our director has lost 180! (started up around 420) We're doing it just with diet and exercise so it is definitely possible :-) If you're in the LA area and need support, I'm your girl!0
