I learned to live three years ago.

Three years ago today, I was in a life-altering car accident. I severely broke my right foot and lower leg, I couldn't walk for at least half a year and I couldn't do any form of hard/impact physical activity until last year really.
I wasn't wearing a seat-belt (yes, yes, I know...), and I rear-ended a truck that was stopped due to my brakes malfunctioning or hydroplaning (we don't know), but I hit him at a speed of around 45, so it was like hitting a brick wall since he was stopped. The EMTs/cops said they were surprised I didn't go through the windshield. My car was beyond totaled.
Ever since then, I've learned to step out and live as best as I can. I'm 40 pounds lighter than the day of my accident. Although it took awhile to get where I am now, to be able to run, I appreciate just the fact that I can. I ran my first 5k last year and it was one of the most fulfilling things to me. The doctors told me I wouldn't ever be able to run again.
Anyway, I figured I would mention this since today is a big deal to me. You never know when you won't be able to move again, and I'm not going to stop moving until I'm dead. I encourage you to do the same!

Wow, thats amazing. Quite a miracle actually. Makes you wonder what other than a miracle kept you in your seat and not through the windshield like the medics said going that fast. Gnarly. Congratulations on acheiving way more than they said you would be able too. Inspirational.0

Congratulations at all levels. You learned a lesson that we all need to take note of and apply. Glad you proved the Doc wrong. Keep on proving and moving for the rest of your life.0

I'm so thrilled you are ok today. What a great reminder about not taking things for granted; it's something we often forget.0

An amazing story, thank you for sharing.
Sometimes it's easy to forget (amidst the whining about exercise and dieting and blah blah blah) that mobility and the ability to exercise or participate in physical activities is a PRIVILEGE. Thank you again for that reminder.0 -
Very inspiring.. Such things makes one realize that its so easy to take life for granted. I truly believe that one should value life and know that god has been really kind to us. There are times when i get all frustrated with the things around. But amidst all of the daily struggle we should all take out sometime and thank god for being so kind to us.
Very Happy to know that you fought back hard and have taken it as a learning experience. Glad you are okay! Tk cr0 -
I added a picture of my foot now at the bottom of the post, to show why it's pretty crazy I run...0

It IS a privilege. Some people are born not being able to have the gift to even walk, much less jog, run, or lift weights safely. Or, like me, some people could be placed in a situation where that privilege could be taken away when you never thought it could. It was a real wake up call!0
