More protein, more exercise. Particularly strength training to build up those muscles to help you burn off more calories on a daily basis. Otherwise, more calories too!

Can you be over-estimating your workout calories?

Your cardiovascular excersize log does seem to be somewhat generous.
  • I'm interested to see what responses you get.....I'm having the same issue. I usually net no more than 100 under my goal each day, I never go over, I exercise daily and over the past two day's I've actually GAINED! It's only a few ounces, but still....very annoying!

I did start 30 Day Shred this week and my arm, chest and shoulder muscles are super sore, maybe some of my issue is water retention due to the sore muscles??

Hard to say. Personally I was at a plateau for over a month, I stumbled across www.intense-workout.com followed his advice and I'm already down 4 this week (granted I'm fully aware this is too fast but considering a month at a standstill I figure I'll give it another week and then adjust if this continues).

I up'd my calories from 1200 to 1440 based on that websites recommendation (he tells you how to figure it out for you). I added strength training this week and protein. (which is protein powder and milk is pretty much my extra 200 calories) I cut back on my cardio, I was running myself into exhaustion.

I alternate between eating all my exercise calories back or not, depends on how I feel. If I'm not hungry and I've eaten at least my 1440 then I'll stop, if I'm honestly (which I literally have to stop and ask myself) still hungry then I'll eat up all my exercise calories.

Hope that helps, granted this is what is working for me at this moment, everyone is different. My advice though whatever you decide is the best option for you give it a couple weeks before you change anything.

I'm having the same issue, I dont go over my calories, the system even tells me sometimes that I'm eating too few calories because I try to stay withing the 1,200 calories that I'm allowed plus I exercise.. but in 2 months, I've only lost 4 lbs.. and this week, I lost zero! I'm on day 17 of the 30 day shred plus I go to the gym. :-(

Do a completely different workout from what you're used to. If you're usually cardio/endurance, go weights/strength. If you do yoga, go for a run. If you use free weights, try boxing. Throw something totally new at yourself and wake your body up a little. It could just be that your body has gotten so used to what you're doing that it now does it very efficiently and doesn't burn as much as it used to -- even if it still makes you sweat.

It's still possible to be overestimating, especially during things like Hot Yoga, which don't necessarily burn as many calories as a HRM say they do, or if your HRM isn't properly calibrated.

I highly recommend adjusting your diet. I noticed you eat out a lot...like 2 meals a day. That's a ton of sodium you're likely taking in (I know Chipotle's burritos are something like 1k mg, and Chinese is notorious for sodium), which isn't helping matters. You can add it to what your diary tracks to get an idea of just how much sodium you're taking in. If you're not drinking enough water, you might be retaining a bunch. Try to pack your lunch, or find options that aren't as high in sodium, and make sure to drink your water.

Also, try adjusting your macros. You're really carb-heavy right now. Try getting more protein in, and reducing the carbs. A lot of people find that MFP's macro ratios are too skewed toward carbs, and find something closer to 30%/30%/30%, or even more protein-heavy works better. You may also need to take a good hard look at what your ACTUAL activity level is and make sure MFP set appropriately. If you say you're "highly active" because of your daily waking and Yoga, then you need to not log it (otherwise you're counting it twice and overeating).

How long have you been doing this? Sometimes it takes a few MONTHS for you to start losing. If you've only been at this a couple weeks, you may just need to be patient.

You might actually want to try eating more. If you're only eating the amount MFP allots you before working out, and then do something like the 30 day shred, you're likely effectively starving yourself. I've seen mention on here that 30DS and P90X have their own calorie recommendations, and they're something like 1800-2200.

I am not an expert, but just from peeking at a few days of your food diary, I bet your sodium is pretty high. You need to either try to reduce this or be eating a lot of fruits and veggies and drinking enough water to flush this out. Good luck and keep your chin up.

THIS! Set it to show your sodium and sugar too. The MFP allowance for sugar is a bit low for most people, but you seem to be eating a lot of sweets too....try replacing those with some 'better' calories.
  • I had a 4 pound gain this week...don't feel bad! I think you'll just see a bigger number next week! This happens to me once inawhile and I just cut out some of the carbs or peanut butter or something!

I don't pay attetnion to soduim due to the sweat factor in hot yoga the temp is 105. As far as the sugar by the end of the day I have so many calories left it's hard to get them in withouteating high calorie foods. According to MFP I am carb deficient almost every day. So don"t worry about the protien?

So you think a high sodium intake doesn't matter if you're sweating it out? I don't know much about hot yoga, but I'm thinking it could still have consequences to your potential losses and might be worth changing a few settings on your diary to check it out....

As far as sugar...maybe try eating some higher calorie (healthy) foods throughout the day so you don't run into that at the end of the day.

Just suggestions...you were looking for advice and those are possible things that have affected loss for a lot of people

I started on 1/25. I have been mostly eating well, a few off meals, doing cardio and strength like crazy, I initially lost 6 lbs. but have not lost anything the last 2 weeks. :ohwell: BUT i was finally able to fit into some pants (size 8) that I hadn't in over 9 months and my size 10s are swimming on me. Can someone check my log and suggest what else i can do to make the scale number go down. thanks.
