I have a stationary and I'm beginning to think my bikes mph is off because when I'm going 10mph it isn't light like mfp says. I'm hauling *kitten*, my feet can barely stay on the bike. If someone can go faster than that they might be flying or using magic lol.

I am going to use my HRM for the first time tonight so I guess thats what the real important thing is but still, is mine off when I am going that fast or do you think I'm going slower than I think I am?

  • On a stationary bike you're always going 0mph :-)

Any other calculation is a guess based on RPM and an assumed wheel circumference. Heart rate is a more important measure of cardio output (your HRM will use it to estimate calories burned).

You can use the bike's reported speed as a relative measure -- 10mph is half as fast as 20mph -- but don't take it too seriously.

Best rate for fat loss is between 110-130bpm. No need to go hell for leather. Stick yourself in front of the tv or console or grab a laptop and surf away. Any faster is more CV work and less fat burning...
