Doing the treadmill with no incline or on an incline?

I started out doing the 9hole setting, I have gotten up to level 8. Its a great workout. I do 3-4 miles each morning. Today, I switched it up some and did 2 miles on 9 hole and 2 miles on manual. On the manual setting, I had the incline set on 10-12. I noticed that it burned more calories. I know that I liked seeing more cals burn faster but I'm not really sure if this is the best way.

I also, alternate between upper and lower weight training daily. Still trying to figure out what would work best on the "love handles"

I want straight answers as to what is best and most productive.

If you need stats let me know.

Incline, IMO. More challenging, burns more calories....

I vary it between a very high gradient at a lower speed and a lower gradient at a high speed, but unless you're running the best way to burn calories is to have it at a high gradient.

Only way to get rid of love handles is to drop body fat % overall.

Love the incline! Would love to jog, but it's too hard on my joints. I use the interval program on the gym treadmill and set it from 6 to 16. Best way to burn calories without increasing my speed to a jog!
