cinnamon is also a great metabolic booster...great to have in a pure whey protein drink as a pre or post workout drink!!!

.....Metabolism-boosting spices such as cinnamon, curry, cayenne pepper, ginger and cumin can aid in losing body fat. Cinnamon is perhaps the most widely recognized spice for boosting metabolism. Cinnamon can transform the body's metabolic activity from fat-making to fat-burning mode by increasing insulin sensitivity. Insulin is the primary hormone that manages the body's energy utilization. Changes in insulin sensitivity is the primary determinant of body fat gain and loss.

I've heard that about greentea but i just read that greentea was proven to make a difference in warding off photoaging! ( less pigmentation and wrinkles plus firmer skin )This was published in an established journal..willing to start drinking it just for that!

Oh snap! i like the sound of that! I'm a Fake and Bake tanner. Not every month and every day. but probably a good 5 months out of the 12, and it does cause wrinkles. But the place i do tan at has a "red light" stand up bed there, and it reduces wrinkles, and clulite (the floor of it shakes fast and jiggles you around:laugh: .) !! it is suppose to bring out the natual collagen in you body to help with it all. I'm going to try it out for 2 months and see how it goes. Pretty excited!

Green tea is suppose to be great for weight loss and lowering cholesterol. I'm actually reading this book called the 17 Day Diet (It's a 4 cycle eating plan designed to break you of bad eating habits and lose weight and learn to keep it off). Anyway, part of their plan is to drink green tea with every meal. Not to mention, it's supposed to have benefits that help prevent certain cancers, heart disease, diabetes, dementia and strokes.

Also rooibos - which is a red tea from Africa has even higher antioxidant levels than green tea, and magnesium too.
I have that every morning in bed, brought to me by my husband.
    He raises my metabolism!

I have been drinking 4 cups of iced green tea every day for the last two weeks. I work at a stressful job (most of the time) and I have noticed a HUGE difference in my mental clarity my energy level and overall mood. I usually sip on that all morning and then switch to water for the rest of the day. I lost 5lbs last week :-) I did work very hard and pushed to burn at least 3500 Cal's but I was shocked with such a huge loss not saying for sure it was the green tea but it obviously helped something! I haven't weighed yet for this week but I'm really excited to see the scale on Sunday. Oh also I brew my own then chill it i think that may make a difference because there is nothing artificial in it i do like to add a lil stevia to sweeten it a little though. I buy the k cups for my keurig for when I'm in a hurry but i also buy bigelow green tea bags from walmart.

Yeah, I like to put a little bit of lemon juice in my greentea. I need to start brewing it and putting it in the fridge, because I don't want it hot all the time! haha=)

Just a quick one for you ... most green tea's contain more caffine than coffee, and its the caffine that is the diuretic ... good for dehydration and bladder irritation!! I gave up the quest and just turned to water ... boring i know but i couldnt be doing with running to the little girls room every 5 mins!

most green tea's contain more caffine than coffee

    this isn't true.
a cup of green tea contains about 25mg caffeine, where a starbucks grande has 225mg. that's almost 10x more in coffee.
also, decaf green tea exists - perhaps worth a shot if you're sensitive to or don't want the caffeine!

I don't like the taste of green tea, so I take green tea extract capsules. Have yet to see if they do anything for metabolism though. On the other hand, I do feel myself burning up when I take Cayenne pepper pills. :)

Green tea has a much lower caffeine content than coffee, however as far as raising your metabolism, I read an article about it a while ago and it said studies showed that you'd basically have to consume about a gallon a day for there to be a difference, so get brewin' !

I haven't done it myself, but I've been thinking about it, just because I cut out soda and after my morning coffee, I barely drink anything all day. Maybe if I brewed a huge vat of tea in the morning I would drink more.

I used to be addicted to green tea. It looks like I may just have to go out and buy some! Do you all sweeten it? If so, with what?
