  • According to Tom Venuto in "The Body Fat Solution", the last 10 lbs are harder to lose than the first 10. He says you can almost always find the answer in your calorie count compliance. Double check your BMR and be meticulous about your daily counts. In a few cases the cause may be traced to biologic roots but this is not very common. With prolonged dieting your body enters "adaptive thermogenesis" or as MFP people like to say, starvation mode. It has to do with a decrease in leptin levels, the anti-starvation hormone. To break any fat loss plateau he says, check your compliance and raise your accountability, reestablish your caloric deficit, go back to work with your adjusted strategy, and finally take a diet break. That sounds counterintuitive but start eating your BMR calories for a week to shut down the adaptive thermogenesis signals your body is sending.

Yep, its the super duper hardest to lose, especially in our 40s. I have found that although the scale is not reflecting my effort, the clothes that I could not wear a few months ago fit. I am losing inches, not weight. Since I am working out so hard and eating a good amount of protein, I am gaining muscle, which weighs more than fat.

Just keep it up, it could possibly take 20 more weeks to get where you wanna be, but hey, when you get there it will be totally worth it! Hang in there, you can do this.

You also may want to consider a spike day if you do not currently do one. That is a day that you eat about 500 more calories. This way your metabolism does not get use to living on 1200 per day.

Hi, my internet connection is being useless, so I can't check your diary properly, but if you haven't already done so, change your goals to 0.5lbs a week. Its got to be slow progress with so little left to lose and you need to make sure you are getting enough fuel for your workouts etc. Stick in there and you'll be just fine!

It's not harder, it's just slower. You can't lose 2 pounds a week like you could the first few (or few lot). You have to be realistic and try to lose it a half pound or even quarter pound at a time. Be patient, it'll come off, regardless of your age. Take your time, it happens.

Hang in there, I've been working on my last 5lbs for the last 3 months LOL!

Like other have said...It's in the numbers, I know I haven't lost my last 5 because I haven't been as strict with my diet.
