It's definitely better for you... higher in protein, less carbs, and less sodium. Greek yogurt also has less sugar, unless you get the kind with fruit in the bottom, then it probably has about the same amount. Some brands are better than others. Now that it is more popular, I read some article about what brands are "truly" Greek yogurts (because it's like how they slap "organic" and "whole grains" on everything when it really isn't). Chobani, Oikos, and Fage are the best brands.

The consistency is a little different and takes some getting used to for some people, especially the fat free compared to the full fat.

An alternative amazing way to eat it, which my kids also love, is mixing a cup of fat free vanilla chobani with a tbsp of peanut butter an 1/2 tsp honey and dipping apple slices in it. It tastes like a desert!

I like the Oikos plain greek (made by Dannon) I found the Chobani to be nasty. Have never had Fage.

Yes the consistency is different and the taste to most if pretty blah. You can add your own fruit, maybe a little stevia to make it sweeter, even add a serving of sugar free jam to it if you don't like it plain. I used to eat the flavored yogurts all the time (not greek) thinking it was so healthy. Lots of sugar, little to no protein either. Most greek yogurts are loaded with protein.

I eat Chobani mostly, but Fage I think is the best tasting of all 3, it's the least "chalky". I think Chobani might have improved the consistency of their yogurt, bc it definitely doesn't seem as bad as it used to, and I don't think it is just because I've been eating it all the time for a couple years, I dunno...
  • Greek yogurt is great. There is a big difference in calories though. I try to find Greek God's-it is a little more expensive but it is 60 calories for a container of plain. I add packets of Stevia or Truvia to it and pistachios. Watch carefully the calories carefully because if you start buying say-vanilla or a flavored Greek yogurt it can jump to 160 calories a container. I eat Greek yogurt everyday for lunch with fruit or some vegetables.
