A cheat meal a week is recommended... just make it yours! Don't go crazy, but do enjoy yourself in moderation0

There is always some kind of veggies on the buffet. Load up on them and stay away from the General Tso's chicken (if i spelled it right). Or anything with alot of breading on it. Eat some steamed rice with alot of veggies on top and just a little of your favorite meal for flavor. I have eaten at chinese buffets with no problem. They always have fruit for desert. Yummy enjoy your meal.0

Stick to the salad bar/soup bar. They have steamed shrimp, mussels, tons of veggies and fruit. Have a bowl or two of clear soup with a little steamed rice and load up on seafood and fresh stuff.
The fruit bar is usually good at those places too, as is the sushi or grill. Just stay away from the deep fried stuff, use the small dessert plates and you'll be fine0 -
Go for the veggies and leaner, less greasy looking meats and if you have rice just go for the plain white steamed (unless they have brown steamed available). Go easier on the thicker looking sauces, fried rices, fried egg dishes, and noodles. You should be alright. Damn my mouth is watering now.0

Honestly. If you were dieting you wouldn't go to a buffet?
But still if you go, avoid the deep friend foods
Plain rice. Foods that have been cooked in savoury sauces. None of that sweet and sour rubbish...
Go for protein and veggies. They always have salad too...and avoid the pudding or just have a wee jelly cup mmm
I will never go to a buffet unless with family and theyre paying hahaha0 -
We have a hibachi place here, so I usually load a plate with fresh veggies, rice noodles, and chicken breast and have them grill it up with some teriyaki sauce. Then I get some egg drop soup ad a wonton or 2.0

Thankfully our local chinese buffet has a sushi bar, so I keep my focus there. But I rarely go to a buffet of any kind, so the once in a while when I do things are ok.0

I can turn anything into a salad it`s a quick and easy way to get you veggies, and you can do a salad so many ways. I don`t eat out much. It`s not easy on the wallet or the diet.0

I just went out a couple of weeks ago to a chinese buffet - had some sushi & lots of veggies. I had lots of cold shrimp - without the cocktail sauce. Yum. I didn't feel deprived after, at all. Still went up for 2nds, but made them good choices. I try to stay away from the brown foods (ugh) - deep fried things, noodles, fried rice..make your plate colourful!!!0

I eat whatever I want until I am satisfied. I eat a lot less than I used to.0

If I feel like I can make it better at home I don't chose it. Go for stuff that is especially good or unique to that buffet. Not too much sweet and sour postmaster type stuff. It's usually a morsel of meat in a breaded shell.0

im in the same boat as you, we may be eating at a buffet tomorrow because we're travelling.all of these suggestions have heled me as well. Thanks for posting this!0

The fried food probably contains trans fat, avoid it.
And drink a LOT of water! Chinese food is Loaded (with a capital L!!!) with it!0 -
Steamed rice (about a cup) and all the steamed vegetables you want. I also go for the steamed chicken. Stay away from the fried stuff.0

My husband took me to one on Valentine's Day. Eat the crab legs, just don't dip them in butter. I feel they taste just as good without it, and you have to work at getting the meat out, which keeps one occupied. I also love the wonton soup. Not sure how healthy it is, but you can't fit many dumplings in those bowls. And like everyone else said skip the fried foods. Don't eat the rice either. Load up on the fresh food.0

I had straight to the sushi bar...yummy...and I have salad and lots of veggies...I just wish I knew how to calculate sushi on here. It still doesn't make sense. Perhaps, because when it comes to sushi, I know not what I am eating...It's all good!0

I go fairly often to a local chinese buffet. I'm down 54.4lbs from my highest weight ever and my ticker reflects what I have lost since I started here. It's ok to lose slowly if it means your new habits are going to stick.
I have pretty much a general meal I have every time I go there; Chicken & Broccoli (more broccoli and carrots than meat), steamed white rice, a couple Crab Rangoons, a chicken on a stick thing, and once in a while a nice cup of Hot & Sour soup that I thin out with some Wonton Soup broth and usually add some chili sauce to.
If you need to, bring your measuring cup so you know exactly how much to portion out (they don't mind much if you are scooping food into your measuring cup, just don't put the cup into in their food nor touch your cup with their utensils). Otherwise, estimate that you put higher portion amounts on your plate.0 -
When i go too a buffet i Stray away from any fryed food and if they offer fish i go for that.. Chinese restaurant tend too serve seafood.. Its easy too go a buffet and get carried away and its easy too now just what your feeling limit is just pay attention too what you feel.. if they don't offer any healthy options then its ok too eat it just now your limit.. Or if you don't feel comfortable you can go too the next place..
If you don't now your limit Stay away from any Restaurants till you do..0 -

Agree , have to find ways of being part of positive social events rather when they come up.0

Do you have time to plan or is it a spur of the moment thing? I have a family potluck gathering and this months theme is Mexican, I know it's not gonna be healthy but I at least have a couple days advance notice so I've been eating really well and exercising hard in preperation for it knowing full well I will over do it that day. Advance notice is good it gives you a little room to prepare, but if you don't have advance notice, do the best you can and remember your goals!! Good luck!!!0

Funny you should bring this up, tomorrow I am going to a Chinese buffet for my sister in laws birthday. Really don't want to but thats where the party is. I plan on sticking to steamed veggies and chicken, shrimp, boiled rice and fruit. I'm staying away from the fried foods.0

Thank you0

Try to go a Mongolian bbq...you can fill your bowl with veggies and select one of the healthier sauces.0
