Plain greek yogurt to replace?

I bought a big carton of Greek yogurt to replace sour cream and perhaps mayo in recipes. What is your favorite use for this? Is it good on baked potatoes? Tacos? Do you add herbs or spices to it? I need recipes! Thank you!

Hi,
If you love greek yogurt.....start making your own.....it will save you a fortune ! !
There are tons of recipes on youtube.
Instead of using a purchased "starter" use the smaller unflavored tub of your favorite greek yogurt.
Find the method you like best......and finish by lining a large colander with 5-6 wet coffee filters. (cheesecloth can be rather messy)
Finally I whip the whole batch with about 3 Tbsp of honey. It takes off that bitter edge that you taste at the end of a mouthful of plain yogurt.
I store mine in jelly jars in the fridge......best used AFTER 4 days.
This is sooooooooooooooo rich, it is difficult for me to eat much more than half a jelly jar at a time.
Its my cure for icecream, cream cheese, or the occasional craving for anything "milk".
Once you master your own........you will never want store bought again ! ! !0 -
I literally use it to replace everything creamy.
Mix with salt and garlic= Alfredo sauce
Use it as sour cream (nothing else needed!)
Use it as a dip (mixed with whatever spices you like)
It's so healthy and versatile! The possibilities are endless.0 -

I also use it as a replacement for buttermilk, heavy cream, and sour cream.

I can't eat it plain ... I've used it to replace sour cream in tuna casserole, and that's about the only substitution I can stand the flavor of (just because there are other flavors to kind of hide the very tartness of it). I tried just on top of a taco or whatever, and I just didn't like it.
But I do second making dips out of it! You could mix it with several things. I just personally haven't tried them - been meaning to! I like it with a little honey or powdered sugar just when I need some protein and don't want to add a lot of extra calories to it.0 -

This sounds interesting - how do you use it to replace heavy cream - in what recipes (not for making whipped cream, I'm sure).I also use it as a replacement for buttermilk, heavy cream, and sour cream.

I find that lowfat is tastier than nonfat greek yogurt.
I am weird, I use it to replace whipped cream in richer desserts. I add a little honey, agave or other sweetener and use it on top.
For a slightly more decadent summer dessert: summer fruits: berries, peaches, plums. 1-2 cups of fruit topped with 1/2 a cup of greek yogurt, 1 tablespoon of marscapone and around 1-2 teaspoons of sugar is amazing.
I like to make raita's and dips with greek yogurt. greek yogurt + lemon juice + herbs + salt and pepper + chopped onion or garlic. (and possibly you may need a teaspoon of sweetener). Great dip for veggies or pita chips.0 -
I use it in soups as an alternate when I want a cream base. This has to be when the soup has been removed from heat, just stirred in right at the end or your base will "break" and curdle.
^^^ That's thinned out yogurt on top, and a bit stirred in the batch to finish it off.
Definitely not a 1 for 1 replacement for whipped cream though. It tastes much different.I am weird, I use it to replace whipped cream in richer desserts. I add a little honey, agave or other sweetener and use it on top.
^^ I do that too, and it's amazing! Doesn't have that light and fluffy thing...but it's good in it's own right.0 -
I use it to make dip, with quesadillas and baked potatoes like I would sour cream to make protein shakes....its the best!0
