Does time really matter?

Hey All :)

So, considering that I work early in the morning, and get off late at night, my work-out hours often fall between the hours of 9pm-1am, which also includes my 1-2 hr walk/jog. A friend of mind insisted jogging in the morning would give even better results than doing it all in the evening. Would anyone know if this was true or not? And is walking/jogging for almost two hours a night a waste of my time? Curious woman here. Open to any suggestions and comments :P

Timing is irrelevant. It's whatever fits into your time and you'll keep doing.

If you enjoy your 1-2 hour jog and it fits in, keep doing it. I only do an hour at the gym because I don't have time and I honestly have better things to do. But if it works for you keep doing it!

So long as you're working out, I don't think it matters what time you do it! Remember that late at night, if that's all you can do, is better than no time at all. If I can, I prefer to exercise in the morning, but only because it stops me from putting it off during the day.

I agree with Lozze, I used to run in the morning, now it's on an evening (about 6pm) and I do often exercise even later, as I hate getting up early!
  • Just be very very very safe if you're walking 2 hours at night outside somewhere.

I think it does. Plenty of people will say it doesn't matter, but I have always noticed better results when I workout first thing in the morning (after a small breakfast). From what I've read, it gives your metabolism a jump start in the morning so you're burning more all day long rather than waiting for your metabolism to wake up and hit it's peak later in the afternoon. I've read this in many places by many different people. I believe there were other reasons, but this is what stuck the most in my mind. To each their own, but for me, I get MUCH faster results when I do it first thing. Most people will tell you it doesn't matter. Maybe it really doesn't, but I think people need to do what works for them. For me, it works far better to do it first thing.

I think walking/jogging for 2 hours is a waste of time unless you are training for an endurance event. Personally I find walking to be a waste of time for exercise purposes if you capable of jogging because jogging burns more calories in less time and has a greater improvement on fitness.

The whole "morning exercise increases your metabolism all day" is not supported by any scientific evidence.

So time of day makes no difference.
