I saw this book in my library on Saturday, and sat down and skimmed it for about 15 minutes. In my opinion, it was just a lot of common sense ideas for the most part. Increase your exercise, cut down on sugar and carbs, drink lots of water. He lists certain meats, vegatables and fruits (stay away from sugary fruits like bananas, eat more citrus and apples) to eat during the first 17 day diet, and then increases your choices during the 2nd 17 day diet. There is also a mainentance diet, but I didn't get that far in the book. He does list suggested meals during each of the 17 day diets.

I wasn't interested enough to check out the book, because it seemed to be similar information of which I am now aware due to hanging out on these message boards and general health reading.

If you have any specific questions, ask away, I might be able to remember more with some prodding.

every 17 days your food cycle changes as well. This is a great tool because it allows you to change up your diet regularly and could help avoid plateaus.

Be cautious the first cycle - you really have to watch your food intake carefully. It is very easy to get below 1200 calories. I supplement with my protein shakes to make sure I get the appropriate amount of calories and eat lots of protein rich, high calorie allowable foods.

The 17 Day Diet was created by Dr. Mike Moreno. The diet is centered around four 17 day cycles:
Cycle 1: Accelerate- the rapid weight loss portion, which helps flush sugar and fat storage from your system
Cycle 2: Activate- the metabolic restart portion, with alternating low and high calorie days to help shed body fat
Cycle 3: Achieve- a phase that involves learning to control portions and introducing new fitness routines
Cycle 4: Arrive- a combination of the first three cycles to keep good habits up for good. On weekends, enjoy your favorite foods
Dr. Mike’s 17 Day Diet consists of specific eating plans for each cycle that create “body confusion”– it keeps your metabolism guessing. Many dieters see rapid changes in the very first cycle!

If you send me your email address, I can send you a document.

To allow the metabolism to adjust to changes, hence the 17 days. Having said that, the figure probably is a little arbitrary, but I'm not quibbling with it. I'm on the 17DD, halfway through Cycle 3, and I can only recommend it. Nutritionally balanced, sensible and, above all, doable! I'm never hungry and I've yet to encounter a craving.

More importantly I'd been trying for over a year to shed some perimenopausal poundage, without any luck whatsoever (despite daily exercise, and I mean EXERCISE). 17DD has made all the difference, because it succeeds in keeping my frustratingly low metabolism on its toes.

For more information, check out the 17 Day Diet Facebook page. All the answers are there, and from people who are doing it.
