Save the date goals

By "save the date" I mean events coming up that you want to add as a check point on your calendar. I find it productive to put check points throughout the year where you either want to look your best, or know that you will need a high level of fitness to do whatever activity will be done during that time. It is really important and keep it in healthy weight loss perspective though. For example if I had a reunion or some other type of event in four weeks I'm not going to make my goal to lose 20 pounds or anything! Keeping an eye on dates can help keep you motivated though. Thinking about who you will be seeing or what you will be doing while at the gym is something I find extremely motivating. So I've got two thus far. June 16th I'm going up to Atlanta. This may be the first time my family and friends see me since losing weight. Duration- 17 weeks Goal 25.5 pounds. Second check point- Going to Alaska to fish for halibut on July 14th. Duration- 21 weeks. Goal- No weight loss goal here. I plan on wenching a 200 pound fish 200 ft off the ocean floor. The goal is for mid section, low back and arm and shoulder stamina to perform this activity (can't forget legs either)! I am hoping to add one in between now and then to add more motivation. What are everyone's opinions on this method, and what are your "save the date" goals?

May 11th - Vegas Trip
June 1st - My 27th Birthday celebration in Vegas
I promised my mom in January that sometime this year I would make her wish come true of having a professional picture of my brother and I taken. So that's also my save the date. Not sure the date but probably October.
Those are my two save the date goals for right now.0 -

I would do this for my wedding and vacations.0

April 26 - the due date for my second grandbaby. I want to be under 200 and look like me, not jabba the hut holding her like I did with my first. Only 6.6 pounds to go, so should not be a problem.
June 2 - to be at 50 pounds weight loss total for the running of my 4th 1/2 marathon, the first since my knee went out on me during the run in May, 2011. 16 pounds in 3 months is doable if I keep my current pace.
August 11 - to reach my goal of 60 pounds lost so I can be totally rocking it as mother of the groom for my son's wedding. The last pounds are the slowest, so I am expecting a battle on this one, but I am already so much trimmer than in the pics from August 2008 at my other son's wedding.
August 2013 - to have maintained my 60 pound loss and have a discussion with a plastic surgeon about a tummy tuck!

I definitely use the "Save the Date" method. It's usually the first day of spring or a 5/10K I've signed up for, but this year it's Tough Mudder!
I have a countdown widget and everything on my phone....74 DAYS to go, 11 weeks last Saturday.
It really helps to motivate me for my long runs and getting myself to boot camp class. I wanna be feeling super strong come May 5th....and I'm hoping a "hot body" with be a side effect of feeling super strong!!!0 -
I love the responses thus far. I used this once for a high school reunion and really lost a lot of weight. Too bad the reunion was terrible! I really do think it is important to weave things in that are of a physical nature as well so that we aren't solely focused on weight loss. I love all the responses that have running goals! Another one I just thought of is to be in shape enough to join the local water polo club by August. If you've never played it is a tremendously demanding sport! I am way far away from that now, but I believe I will get there!0
