Is weight just a number?

Ok so I have to admit that I didnt sick to my diet this past weekend. I had some adult beverages...so maybe im wondering if it is water weight?
But all in all I feel lighter and smaller around the waist but my scale says I have a gained a few lbs!!!:explode:
I am wondering if I should stop weighing myself, but I cant!! Im a total almost daily weigher...
Any advice?
And I might change my weigh in days to a wed or fri cuz... weighing in on a mon after the weekend is not making me very encouraged!
Thanx!

I fully believe in weighing in only once a week. But, you'll find plenty of people at MFP who believe otherwise. Guess it'll have to be YOUR choice in the long run!0

weight is such a number.
if i have had a bad day i don;t weigh myself the next day to save getting annoyed at the scales. if i have a good day i get on and off them all day till i dissapear its like countdown.
when i drink (booze), the next day i am instantly pounds lighter thanks to good old dehydration.
but you can drink and drink and drink (water) and put on weight even though it is all water.
i weight myself now everyday
then i wrote my self a little program that i use to monitor weight on the pc that automatically adds up each weight from the day and divides it by 7 for my weekly aerage that way i know if its beer or if its food or whatever it is i know if i have had a good week or bad.
my weight can fluctuate 2 -3 pounds a day and even more if alcohol is involved. i aim for when i wak but working shifts it hard. especially when your goals are in sight this really thrws it around.
my best and i think honest figures come when i haven;t had a sinlgle alcoholic drink and i have followed the diet strictly for two days and my last meal was finished at 6pm the night before i weight in. no doubt then i will see good results its just hard to put it all in to practise all the time.

man what a load of rambling lol0 -
Thanks Ben!
I totally hear what ur saying!
I guess its just disappointing to watch my ticker go back to 0 lbs lost!:ohwell:0 -
Daily can be rewarding and sad. A girlfriend of mine got very frustrated doing the daily weigh in thing. I asked what her goal was - lose 2lbs a week. SO I told her to weigh her self friday am - before any weekend damage could be done. It worked for her.
I also agree with Benjamumover. Until you rehyrate you will feel lighter. :drinker: If you know you were bad, then expect alot more weight. Say 10lbs. Then you won't feel so bad when you see the damage.
Also, I weigh myself at the gym - shoes and all. THis way I know I am actually lighter naked - and that makes me feel even better. Its all mental. Just know you WILL MAKE IT!:happy:0 -
Your exercise can also impact this. I went for MONTHS without losing a single pound, and even fluctuating up a little on some days. However, I also took measurements, and noticed that by adding some strength training, I still lost inches, and actually went down another size. Weight really is just a number, and it's really size and body fat % that count, at least in my book.0

tell me about it i keep wanting to post on here that im down to my last ten pounds then i go out for the night and it all seems a week away again. it ahs put me off booze this website. i stop having one or two during the week now. and weekedns have been all about the kareoke instead of all about the porcelain. i drink subrounds of coke and water now but i still feel the enjoyment. you can;t quit everything that would be well miserable innit!0 -
i used to be a daily weigher. then i decided to get rid of the scale. so now i can only weigh myself once a week when we go to my father-in-laws house for dinner. i know it's not the "ideal time" to weigh yourself, but it at least gives me some kinda idea at how i'm doing.0

When I weigh myself everyday it helps me get the average. I can change up to 4 lbs in a week! So for the people who only weigh once a week, make sure it is on a light day, lol. For me the light day is Thursday. I workout all week and eat right, but Monday OMG I want to throw the scale out the window! The weekend is a hole of fun but bad food choices for me. Vaca next week-AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH that is like ten days of weekend! I will be bringing my DVD's and walking everyday (I hope)0

someone please help us all scale addicts.. its like a compulsive disorder!!
i've tried to limit myself too.. strange part is.. even when ive gained a few pounds.. my clothes dont fit all that bad.. i mean i can feel the difference but its not THAT bad.. and then i get on the scale.. and its the worst thing i can do.. demotivates the hell out of me..
and the funniest? i dont feel 'really' bad.. i mean its far worse after i know my weight..
am i making any sense?0 -
I have had this same question. I have been eating clean and working out HARD for 3 weeks now. The scale had shown no changes, and I was so frustrated. I felt smaller. I felt more toned. My pants were getting baggy. Even the measurements I took were showing some small losses (but small!) But I just knew the composition of my body was changing. Instead of feeling flab under my skin, I was feeling nice hard muscles.
This week I found my answer. I went to a gathering where I saw all of my coworkers after being on Summer Vacation for a month and MANY approached me and wanted to know what I had been doing because I looked so great. They really noticed my shrinking and toned body and one even said that I was her inspiratoin ! Then today I weighed in and I am down 3 pounds from last week, and my measurements really shrunk!
My advice for you is to just be patient! Keep doing what you are doing. It is working! It took me 4 weeks before I saw numeric results. But all this time, my body has been changing dramatically, and I am feeling healthier and stronger than ever. Just give it time!0 -
Also, I'm a daily weigher too. I feel like I have a better grip on things that way. I also don't let a pound or 2 or 3 bug me, unless they stick around for more than a few days.0

I like to weigh in everyday also. That way, if I gain, I know not to do what I did the day before. Does that make sense?0

I know how you feel, I tend to over indulge in these type beverages on the weekend as well.... I have switched to weighing on Fridays -- HOWEVER, I am getting ready to go on vacation this week and I am sure the diet will be blown to bits after this vacation.... sigh.... I think the idea you had of weighing on Wed and Fri sounds reasonable. I think after adult beverages I tend to retain water weight also!!0 -
Thank you for all of your inputs....I feel better that Im not the only one!! lol.
I am switch my weigh in days to Fri am! and i need to really do my measurements asap!
I am doing more weight training this time around so i really should me documenting my measurements!
