Eating after a certain time.

Is there a time where you won't eat after? I always workout late and find myself not eating dinner until 7:00 or 8:00pm. Interested in hearing everyone's thoughts!

It makes absolutely no difference assuming that you are consuming less calories than you expend over the course of time.0

I workout late also - and usually with class and my hour of strength building - it's usually after 8pm. I don't feel great for eating before bed - but I am still seeing results.
I think the biggest thing is consuming food before bed can sometimes mess with your sleep cycle.0 -
I don't know if there is a rule but I never eat 2 hours before I go to bed. I also work out to almost 11pm at night.0

We don't eat until about 8.30. My hubby doesn't come home from work until about 7ish and my two boys go to bed about 7.30. Once that is all done and by the time dinner has been made (or in our case in the microwave some days!) it is about 8.30.
I try to do a workout even if it is just 30 minutes whilst dinner is being done/just before I eat my dinner. I am still seeing results.
I did use to do an hour workout about 10ish but was knackered the morning after.
If it is working for you, stick with it!!! :happy:0 -
I usually don't eat after 8pm but that is only b/c I'm in bed by 10 at the latest, and I don't like the feeling of a full stomach when I go to bed.0

The only reason I don't eat after a certain time is because, if it's close enough to when I go to bed, I figure I can just go without the extra calories and go to bed. Like others said, it doesn't really make a difference if you eat after a certain time. I wouldn't suggest eating a ton of carbs right before bed but, I mean, you could I guess.0

I eat 700cal before i go to sleep everyday.
dont think it slows down my weight loss0 -
I don't eat after dinner, whatever time that may be. I find that if I eat after dinner I'm not hungry but either bored or tired, and will just go to bed!0

I think that myth started because many people, after a long, tiring day allow themselves to make poor food choices at the end of the day and eat past their calorie limit. If this is you, make sure you are eating nutritious calories throughout the day so you are NOT overly hungry at night....AND get plenty of sleep.0

I used to be totally opposed to eating after 8pm or so because I thought my body wouldn't have to time to digest it before bed and it would just add to my weight problem. I also used to find that if I ate too late or too much in the evening, I would wake up starving in the morning. Of course, this was all when I was fatter & not working out AT ALL.
Now there are so many evenings where I don't finish my work-outs or sometimes even get home 'til 9-, 10, 11 or later. But because I still have tons of calories left for the day, I eat as much as is comfortable...even if it's midnite. I can fall straight into bed directly after eating & still wake up slimmer, feeling great and totally nourished! My body doesn't seem to care WHEN I get my nutrients, as long as I do.
I love it now that my body & I understand each other so much better0 -
Funny.... I was just researching this exact question about an hour ago!!! I was always told that it was BAD to eat after 6:00 pm. I think I was misled. I go straight from work to the gym, so usually I don't even get home until after 8pm. It just wasn't working for me to try to have dinner at 5pm while commuting. I was going to bed hungry! This week I have started having a protein shake after I get home from the gym. Seems to be working for me so far!!0

Not really, but I do like to stop eating 90 minutes before bed just to digest. I also stop drinking 90 minutes before bed as well to eliminate late night bathroom trips.
If I am hungry, and it is right before bed, I'll eat something small (100 cals).0 -
I used to eat at all hours of the day and night and it never made a difference to weight loss (or gain), but now I don't eat late simply because I get indigestion if I do! Ah, the joys of getting older.0

I actually wait until later to eat. My body wants to eat constantly from suppertime until bedtime. So I don't allow myself to eat between supper and 9:00, and then I make sure I have some calories left over after 10:30 so I can have something immediately before bed. Food cravings can get really bad if you're tired, so I have to look out for that, making sure that I still have some calories left over in case I am tired but hubby still wants to stay up later.0

As a kid i was told it was bad to eat before bed-- but i dont believe that anymore, Im a big believer in calories in calories out, ie doesn't matter when you eat or how much as long as you have a caloric deficit.0

I eat dinner usually ay 7-8 too. But I always have a treat in the evening around 10. It has not affected my weight loss. Sometimes it does cause nightmares however lol. As long as you are staying within your calories and creating a deficit, it should be fine.0
