Hey
Let me start by saying I am not a diabetic nor have I ever been one I am doing some research on behalf of my mum I am trying to help her get a bit healthier
Stats:
5ft
72 *never too late to start imo
158lbs
BMI 30.9
I asked her yesterday to write down every single thing she ate so I could show her how calories add up and the entry in my diary for Wednesday is what we tracked together. I have unblocked my diary for the purpose of this thread only, usually it is visible for friends only
IMO the dietician she sees does not help much and the diabetic nurse not much better. They think her weight is fine .. really?! :noway:
If anyone is in a similar situation and can offer some advise would really appreciate it.:flowerforyou:

Yeah mum has days where she can go low/high very easily and I think if she can get her food under control if would help Also at night they can be fairly low *still learning about them :blushing:
She was diagnosed on her 50th birthday ... nice present to get from the doctor :grumble: If I ever need to go to the doctor I certainly won't be visiting on my birthday LOL *luckily I don't have to go very often, last appointment was probably a work medical 2 or 3 years ago all normal0 -
your mom got the news on her birthday, how terrible. my fiance' actually found out on christmas eve, so i guess that's just as bad! i would definitely suggest having her track her foods and numbers, then she can see what foods make her go high or low. my fiance was told to loose 30 lbs right off the bat. we do find that when he works out his numbers are more stable, so maybe a light excercise routine will help her too!
if you have anything specific you're wondering about just let me know!0 -
Bah I cannot edit my own post :grumble:
Need to edit the day I tracked her food so copied them across to Friday ... want to plan my own day :laugh:I asked her yesterday to write down every single thing she ate so I could show her how calories add up and the entry in my diary for Wednesday is what we tracked together. Hi Chellie, I am 77 and have been a DB Type 2 for quite a few years now. I am controlling mine by diet only.
You don't say whether your mom is having to take any medication for hers.
Also, the less weight she is carrying the better as it does have a great effect on the functioning of your body and whilst 158lbs doesn't appear to be too drastic for her height it would be better to be nearer 126lbs.
One of the main things to watch is carbs and sugars altho' as has been said this varies greatly from one person to another.
All the best to you both.0
