What are you giving up for lent?

So, for the British it is Pancake day tomorrow, for the Dutch it is carnival, and I am sure some others have traditions to celebrate the start of lent.

So with us all dieting anyway, is there something extra that you can and will give up for lent?

My 5 year old daughter and I had a chat about what we should give up for lent.

I said: 'I will give up cakes!'
'Mom, you don't eat cakes'...
'Sweets then?'
' you never eat sweeets mum!'
'Chocolate??'
'Mum, you can't give up things you don't eat anyway!'
'Mum, I think you should give up quavers or wine....'

hmmm, I agree, these are the 2 treats I allow myself during my diet, but do I really want to sacrafy the last 2 treats I allow myself for the forthcoming 40 days?

I told her I'd think about it, but whilst I am thinking about it, I wonder; what will you give up for lent?

I don't know yet, I'm marathon training so am considering giving up 'junk' but sometimes rely on flapjack and homemade baked things to make up calories.

    Suggestions welcome!

Heh, never done lent-y things. I'm more of a Pastafarian. Maybe i'll give up noodles in honor of His Noodly Greatness (though I'm not a huge fan of noodles to begin with...I don't even remember the last time I even ate noodles).

Wow, good to see so many responses! I really feel like I should give up these quavers, after reading the responses. Don't think I can part with my weekend wine though...

Kitten mitton; that is cheating! As my daughter said: You can't give up things you don't eat any way!' ... but then, if you never done anything for lent...

I am gonna give up being lazy. Need to start kicking my workouts in gear.
  • I always say that I'm going to give up sugar. (never really lasts) :) Well, last year I gave up ice cream, and I actually stuck to it!! I think its because I had my best friend do it with me, and when we both had a craving for it, we wouldnt let each other break. It was very fufilling !!! I think ill try giving up some more of my biggest sugar hogs this year, and see how it goes.

Use cinnamon instead of sugar! I eat sugar-free cereal with sugar free soymilk sometimes and it's kind of boring, but a little bit of cinnamon makes everything better (a packet of splenda or equal doesn't hurt either)
