I bought some electrode gel and have been putting on the silver mesh part of the strap. This is correct right?? Or is it supposed to be on the smooth black part?

  Silver mesh part. On my wife's FT7 water works just fine.

  I just got mine today and I wet the silver part. I believe this is correct.

  I have an FT7 and it works without doing anything. I used to use water and wet the silver part and then decided to skip it - it works fine.
