What's the worse diets you've been on and why?
I think this is a fun topic. It proves that some fad diets work and some work temporarily and some stall weight loss later down the road. I'd love to hear people's input.
Mine:
Diet Center: One is required to eat 6 grapefruit day :noway: , boiled chicken and a piece of Wasa Bread. Impossible to maintain. I hate all three now having maintained that diet for six months when I was 15. (eek, 28 years ago).
Eat to Win: total carb diet. Worked perfect when I was a runner. Stopped running when I went into university and got fat immediately. It's a diet really for some high performance athletes, I think? And it's nothing new. Low fat, etc.

i once tried "diet pills" -- the alli ones????
they claim they naturally help you pass out extra fat in the body so you had to eat foods low in fat content and if you ate something high in fat my gosh the stomache pains where unreal
they did help me loose about 10-15lbs but they give you HORRENDOUS stomache cramps and they make you eh-- pass out bright orange gunge that did not smell nice hahahaha0 -

OMG I became such a moody, thirsty, constipated moo cow on that! I just couldn't sustain it at all. In fact every 'diet' I've ever been on has failed. Right now I'm just trying to eat less/move more - no frills or rules or anything. I've got to keep this together and diets don't work for me.0 -

The British Heart Foundation diet was bad, dry toast, only black tea I think in total was eating about 800 cals a day! I lasted a few days before I nearly passed out! xx0

Although I loved doing Atkins the thought that I had halitosis made me speak to people through my clenched teeth or stand 15ft away from them.0

I was overweight as a kid. My mother put me on the Scarsdale Diet. :explode: :grumble: It was AWFUL. I dont think I could stick to that even as an adult. I think it helped to give me a permanent mindset of DIETING SUCKS! :huh:0

Cabbage Soup Diet
You make a giant pot of this cabbage soup concoction and you can eat as much as you want, which is okay for like a day.
First and last real 'diet' I ever did.0 -
I don't remember what it was called but there were lists of foods divided into groups and then then you ate 6 meals a day choosing foods from certain groups so like day 1 meal 1 would be choose 2 foods from group 3 and 1 food from group 6. You could have as much of it as you wanted so if you chose peanuts, tomatoes and cucumber you could eat a pot of tomatoes, 8 or 9 cucumbers and a half kilo of peanuts and you were still on track. It was stupid, I was tired, I nearly passed out at the cafeteria at work and I was a complete B**** on that diet. My husband tried it with me and quit after 3 days, I stuck it out for an additional 2 but that was horrible.
I actually like the slim fast thing. I don't do their "plan" I just use the shakes to make sure I get some vitamins and calories into my day before my husband gets home. Before I found MFP I did a paper food log and realized I wasn't eating during the day and if I did it was fast and easy junk like white bread, massive amounts of full fat cheese (I'm a Parmesan junkie), etc. When my husband got home and could take over diaper and entertaining duty I went to the kitchen and cleaned it out. I realized I needed to stop when I ate about 1300 calories between 6-10PM0 -
oh yeah, the cabbage soup diet. Ick. I did loose about 5 pounds that week. I was also bloated and gassy. I passed gas all through my sorority meetings that week. It was a joke for the rest of the semester.0

So true! Fortunately there's a type of no sugar mouth wash that I get at my dentist that helps this a great deal. :blushing:0 -
This is why I do not call it a DIET. I called LIVE IT. Live by IT. A Diet implies restriction. As human beings the second we tell ourselves we are no longer going to eat this or that, we will cheat. Instead I teach all the people I coach to simply say, I know I can have all of this, but at this moment I choose to have something better for me. The psychology, and all the not so healthy foods that we tend to eat tend to make us addicted. Therefore, I always tell the people I coach, always ask the following question: "Is this what I want (because we eat with our eyes), or Is this what I need (what is good for me)? And, what foods do I enjoy that can easily be replaced for something that has a greater benefit for me. That's how I do... Thus far, 234 pounds gone. From a size 58-60 to 32 and a size 6xl to a small. Keep focused! I am here to help!0

500 calorie diet. The good thing was that I couldn't stay on it for more than a day.0
