Okay, so I'm probably "beating a dead horse", but... I currently have a FitBit, but want something different. A friend of mine has Body Media Fit and recommended that, but I know that the Polar HRM products are good too. Personal preferences? Dislikes of either or both?

I depends on what you want to use it for.. Do you want something to wear all day or do you want something for exercise only?

Personally, I love both my Polar products.. Had an FT7 and now a FT60. Granted they are only made for exercise only.. which is fine by me because I don't need to know how much I am burning all day long.

Also, BMF makes you pay a monthly fee to use it.. while an HRM doesn't. So thats another factor to consider.

I'm not sure what I want. I don't mind wearing something all day, and the BMF price is something like $6/mo (not hugely expensive). Just wasn't sure if people had personal preferences. What's the difference between your FT7 and FT60?

There isn't much of a difference between the FT7 and the FT60.

    FT7:
    Calories Burned
Able to enter Max Heart Rate
Shows you Fat Burning Zone Vs Fitness Burning Zones
Comes in 4 Colors(Black and Silver, Black and Gold, Red and Silver, Black and Red).

    FT60:
    Calories Burned
Able to enter Max Heart Rate
Able to enter V02max(and has a test to figure out Vo2max)
Shows you three different training zones
Has a training program option(for fitness, weight loss and muscle gain I think)
Able to use GPS(optional sensor that you buy)
Comes in 2 colors(pink for women and black for men)

You can go the Polar Site and compare.. and then look on amazon if you decide to purchase.. it's a hell of a lot cheaper on Amazon!

They are very different, though there are benefits to both. I've been wearing a BMF for almost 2 years & LOVE. IT. The biggest difference I can point out is that a HRM can only give you reasonably accurate info about what you burn while exercising. The BMF will give you data around the clock, which is invaluable for those immeasurable activities like grocery shopping & cleaning house. It also measures the intensity of your exercise in METs rather than your actual heart rate. It really depends on whether you'll be using HR monitoring to structure your exercise...though I think with the display watch for the BMF it can give you instant readings just like a HRM. And the newer version, BM Link, has bluetooth capability so i think it can give you that data on your phone or something fancy like that.

I have a Garmin with chest strap, so I have access to heart rate data & don't need the display/bluetooth. I still love the BMF because it gives me my total calorie burn for a 24 hour period. I log my food here, then just plug the total into the BMF website & makes it easy to manage my calorie deficit.

Feel free to message me with questions.
  • Ok - so I bought the Body Media Fit and so far I am a big fan after just a week of wearing it! I love the information it gives me about calories consumed, burned, and my sleep. But I have read some reviews that the Body Media FIT may not accurately capture more intense workouts, so I also purchased a Polar FT60 heart rate monitor. I haven't taken the Polar HRM out of its packaging yet, because I read on the Body Media FIT activity website that only Garmin HRM have been officially tested and shown to be compabitible. Can you tell me if they have tried using their Polar FT60 HRM with BodyMedia? Can you upload Polar HRM data with the Body Media Activity program?
