Break a "sugar addiction"?

I don't know if a sugar addiction is a real thing or not, but if it is, I think I got it. My healthy eating goes wonderfully and I feel great about it until I run into my regular sugar cravings and kind of lose control. When it comes to the sweets, I usually eat 'em until I feel sick. =\ Have you had any luck in learning how to control your sugar cravings? Can you offer any tips/helpful advice?

Hmm... I think I know what you're talking about, but for me, it wasn't too hard to give up sugary foods.
If it is anything like caffeine addictions, you'll want to taper off slowly rather than trying to cut things out cold turkey. I don't know if it is or not.
I recommend against using artificial sweeteners to give up sugar. There have been theories that suggest that when you taste sweetness, your body starts looking for the sugar high and gets hungry if there is nothing there for it to digest and play with. I don't know if it's true or not, but I do find a diet coke a lot easier to handle with a meal rather than by itself in the middle of the afternoon.0 -
Yess I definitely think sugar addictions are real, because I have had one forever! Remember on that trip to Pullmanistan, and I started eating massive amounts of doughnuts and sugary muffins? That set me back about a month, all because I let myself start eating emotionally and with abandon.
Also- Do not depend on artificial sweeteners to break a sugar addiction! Yes, delicious aspartame is great for helping curb cravings, but I just read on Livestrong that since these sweeteners are still from sugar, and just don't have the receptor that feeds into the pleasure center of your brain, you trick your brian into thinking you're eating something sweet. When it realizes you didn't, it tries to get you to eat real sugar.
I found this diet, the South Beach Diet, when followed properly is extremely effective at breaking the sugar addiction. I'm on the 11th day out of Phase 1 right now, and I feel amazing. Phase 1 is 2 weeks long, and you eliminate added sugar and bread carbs, and only eat things with low sugar content and low fat content, while upping the protein and healthy veggies, and making sure you stay satisfied by cooking delicious meals 6 times a day and pair it with daily active exercise. Phase 1 is meant to break the addiction. Phase 2 reintroduces bread and fruit into the equation in controlled amounts, and Phase 3 is your new way of eating.
You may not need as dramatic of a method as this, but I did XD0
