Eating back calories

Hi all,
Just getting back into the swing of things- my question is this, do I really need to eat back the calories I burned exercising? I am worried that I figured them wrong or that I am going to end up making the exercise pointless...what I mean is, if I burned those calories why do I want to eat them back? Thanks for clarifying!

MFP doesn't take exercise into account when it gives you a calorie goal. So you would lose weight even with out exercise. When you exercise, you create an even larger deficit. Very large deficits can be detrimental to your metabolism. That is why it's recommended that you eat back at least most of the calories burned.

No. That is all. :bigsmile:0 -
If you're worried about eating back too many, then make sure to underestimate your exercise (most people way overestimate their exercise calories anyway). For example, subtract 100 calories from the machines at the gym.0

Love this post, thanks for all the links. I second the above advice, the machines and even the MFP exercise defaults tend to run much higher then my HRM.0
