hi,
okay joining gym soon and am going to hit it hard!
first of all is it okay to drink back my cals after a workout? (as i don't think i could eat much more during the day and dont want ridiculous evening meals!! lol)

also are protein shakes just for body building? what purpose does it play in the body for losing weight/ toning?

before working out could I have a protein shake to get work out cals back and then my evening meal when I get home from gym?

sorry if i sound stupid i just want to do the right thing and am unsure on how to do it!!

For now, make sure you are tracking your protein you get from food. Don't start off too crazy at the gym. I used 5 pound dumbbells to work shoulders last night and my husband told me to drink a glass of milk after and I was like...no! Calories! lol. But I think the basics are...you need protein when you are working your muscles hard so they can heal. I wouldn't worry too much about timing right now since you are not trying to do anything way serious, like body building. Definitely eat back at least half or most of your exercise cals. You earned it and my weight loss has been very steady even though I eat all or most of my cals. Eat food that is good for you.
