Looked in my refridgerator this morning and couldn't find a (good) thing to pack for lunch today... Brought a yogurt, pear and 2 cuties.

I would often forget to bring lunch in to work, so I had a small stash of healthy soups and those noodle/rice bowls you just add water to, microwave and eat. Marie Callendar has some, I know other companies have them, usually in the pasta isle. Asian ones are yummy too. Usually not exactly the healthiest and the sodium is way high, but relatively speaking it's way better and cheaper than fast food. If I had enough time on my way in to work sometimes I would just run in to a grocery store (or even pharmacy) and pick up a frozen dinner.

At least there is a subway, but you can only eat a turkey and ham on 9 grain so many times before you wanna puke

I've started to make sure I have something in my desk (crisps, small soups you add water to, nuts, fruit that keeps for a while) and fridge (greek yogurt, carrots) just so I don't get the "gotta go buy a pizza and wings" feeling in the middle of the afternoon! I hear ya, though, some days it is tough to scrape up enough for lunch!

Maybe you should be planning ahead a little better.

Try making a simple chili, soup, pasta salad, tuna salad or grill some chicken breast or and throw it on some mixed greens and veggies. Pack for the week. A little weekend prep will save you calories, fat, sodium, and time wasted standing in line.

    My work stash includes:

Pack of crackers - usually ryvita, maybe rice cakes
Tinned fish - sardines. mackerel, tuna
    Single portions of baked beans
    Nakd bars
    wasabi peas
    roast soya beans

In the office fridge I usually keep some babybels, spready cheese triangles, a boiled egg, and some soya desserts.

I HAVE to pack a lunch. I work in an industrial park where there is every fast food joint known to man (all the unhealthy ones anyway). I too keep soups, oatmeal packets, lower sodium V-8, no sugar added applesauce .... in my desk just in case.

I'm not a morning person, so I pack my lunch the night before & stick it in the fridge (breakfast is "packed" too).

I keep a box of rolled oats, a jar of peanut butter, a bunch of soups (with the pop top) and a bag of frozen veggies in the freezer. This gets me through those days I have nothing at home!

Yeah, I've had trouble getting food to magically appear in my fridge, too.
  • Eveyone orders take out where I work daily plus we have catering on site. In the event of the on forseen 'crap I have no lunch' moment. I usually order a salad with nothing but meat and veg. I try not to do that too much because portion control is a huge down fall for me. When it does happen I do my best to plan better. At least for a few weeks until I forget again!

Agreed. I also do the desk emergency stash. I keep a can of soup on hand as well as dried fruit, just in case I forget to bring my lunch. It keeps me out of the vending machine.
  • I can not gut another can of soup, I would rather not eat. I went through a period in time where all I could afford was soup for lunch (I lost a ton of weight, too) but now I literally can NOT eat it. It makes me feel sick. I KNOW I need to plan better for the week, but sometimes when you open the fridge everything just "sounds" gross. Therefore, I walk away with yogurt and fruits because I know I "have" to eat them.

Tomorrow shall be a better lunch day.

I do this too. I have some random things (natural almonds, dried fruit, some soup) in my desk just in case I'm running low on groceries at home or something. But I do try to make sure my fridge is stocked with at least enough to get me by until I can go to the store again.

Another thing I do to ensure that I have lunch the next day is make an extra portion of dinner the night before, and put it in a plastic container. That way I don't even have to think about it, I can just grab it in the morning and pop it in the microwave at work.
  • hahahaha - yes! There is a grocery store too - but unless I spend like 16 bucks for healthy ingredients for a meal - I'm skrewed. I did go to subway lastnight...290 cal sandwich...no cheese...no mayo...blech.

This happens to me, too. I work Tues-Sat, and on Mondays I usually make a crockpot something for my lunches. Package it all up and everything. But honestly, by Friday, sometimes I sooooo don't want to eat it anymore! I open the fridge and think "Shoot...guess it's yogurt and saltines for me!" (Note to self...restock office stash!!)

Get a roll and some sliced meat. Or some vegetables and hummus. Nuts. Maybe a veggie burger. If you have access to a grocery store, you don't have to spend a fortune to get a decent lunch. They might even have a deli section where you could get a sandwich or some hot food.
