Spinning Bike or Exercise Bike

Hi All,

I need a little advice. I plan to do the London to Brighton cycle this year and already have a bike, which I will use in the race and for long cycles. I would like to get a bike for indoor exercise but am not sure if I should go for a second hand spinning bike (£150 from a family friend) or a new exercise bike.

My options are

Jonny G Spinner for £150 http://www.fitsupply.com/Pre_Owned_Star_Trac_Schwinn_Johnny_G_Spinner_Bike_p/po-sch-jg-spin.htm

York C201 Cycle for £179.99 from amazon.

What do you guys think?

I would get the spinning bike. As you can change the resistance it can help you train for the race in 'windy weather' so to speak and 'uphill climbs'. Much more realistic than a regular exercise bike.

    Good luck. X

If you already have a bike, why not get a trainer?

Spinning bike or turbo trainer all day long, over that exercise bike. Of course there is no real substitute for road miles! SPinning comes much closer to the experience of actual cycling than exercise bikes though, in my opinion.

    Good luck with the L2B.

Thank you everyone for the advice. The exercise bike is out and I will go for the spin bike :-)

I agree with jacksonpt. You should get a bike trainer. You put your road bike on it and you use your actual road bike (what you would use in your race) to train.

    Agreed.

Second/third that. I use rollers and love it. It feels more like riding a bike then riding a stationary bike, but other people I've talked to tell me they think it's unsettling because the bike drifts left and right so I don't think they are for everyone though.
